Farm Service Agency news
The annual requirement of reporting to the FSA office can be referred to as crop reporting, acreage reporting, or crop certification. Filing an accurate and timely report for all crops and land uses, including failed acreage, can prevent loss of benefits for a variety of Farm Service Agency programs.
Conservation Reserve Program acreage must be reported to receive annual rental payments. And, crop acreage for Non-insured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP) must also be reported.
Crop reports, form FSA-578, Report of Acreage, must account for all cropland on a farm, whether idle or planted. The deadline has been extended until Aug. 14. Small grains were required by May 31.
Late fee are $46 per farm for the first hour and $8 per every half hour
after the first initial hour.

Prevented planting:
Prevented planting needs be reported no later than 15 calendar days after the final planting date. This date has also been extended until Aug. 14. You must provide adequate documentation to prove the intent to plant the crop, this includes seed invoices (or return credit), chemical invoices and land preparation. Be prepared to bring
this information when you come into certify.
Failed acreage:
Reports of failed acreage must be filed before disposition of the crop, and producers must be able to establish to the satisfaction of the county committee that the crop failed and was prevented from being replanted through the normal planting period because of natural disaster conditions.

Sign up for the 2009 Direct and Counter Cyclical Program and ACRE program continues until Aug. 14 as well.
Producer should contact the office to set up an appointment to enroll their farms Advance payments will be issued at 22 percent of the direct payment. Direct payment for corn is 28 cents, 44 cents for soybeans and 52 cents for wheat. Final payments will be issued in October of 2009.

Planting pilot project available to Indiana producers
Julia A. Wickard, Executive Director of USDA's Farm Service Agency (FSA) in Indiana, announced that the Planting Transferability Pilot Project (PTPP) permits Indiana producers to plant approved vegetables for processing on base acres under the Direct and Counter-Cyclical Program (DCP) or Average Crop Revenue Election Program (ACRE).
