Indiana farmland values to continue climbing
A Purdue University survey shows that Indiana farmland values have continued to increase despite last summer’s severe drought, and farm managers and rural appraisers from across the state expect the trend to continue.

Alfalfa weevil starts to emerge; growers need to scout fields
Indiana has had enough warm, spring days for alfalfa growers to start seeing alfalfa weevil emerging in their fields. So producers should be scouting for the pest now instead of waiting to see obvious damage before doing anything about it, a Purdue Extension entomologist says.

Meats Judging success
About five years ago, the idea of a Meats Judging team was brought up to Mr. Harvey. Mr. Harvey pondered this thought for a while, and then decided, “Why not!” Although Mr. Harvey himself was not the ideal Meats Judger, he was determined to take a Meats Judging team to state. Four years later not only did he take a team to state, he was going to take a team to Denver, Colo., to the National Meats Judging Contest

District IX FFA Convention
The Rushville FFA Chapter took some very dedicated FFA members to the District IX FFA Convention on March 8. These members competed with 15 other chapters in our district. Many of these members will be advancing to state convention in June.

Extension Homemakers celebrate 100 years
Extension Homemakers around the Hoosier state are celebrating 100 years of service on Sunday, April 7. The Rushville Republican has been featuring memories, stories and tributes to the many accomplishments and members involved throughout the years. Have you been a member or was a mother or grandmother a member in the past. Become involved again in making new memories by calling Gracie Marlatt at the Extension office at: 932-5974. The local celebration will begin at 2 p.m. April 7 at the Root Building at the Rush County Fairgrounds. Everyone is welcome.

Hoosier farmers recognized for achievements
State Rep. Cindy Ziemke (R-Batesville) congratulates the Moore-Dudgeon-Meyers family from Rush County for receiving the Hoosier Homestead Award. The award was presented today by Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann and Agriculture Director Gina Sheets at the Indiana Statehouse.

FSA announces general sign-up for CRP
Julia A. Wickard, State Executive Director of USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) in Indiana has announced the Indiana FSA will conduct a four-week Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) general sign-up beginning May 20 and ending on June 14.
