Workshop offered to help farmers write a successful grant

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service will sponsor an IP video workshop from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 28 aimed at helping individuals learn how to write a grant proposal.

"The purpose is to explain more about the North Central Region Sustainable Agriculture Research Education Farmer Rancher Grant Program in hopes of getting people to write grant proposals," Tom Jordan, Purdue professor of botany said.

The workshop will have one component that is general in nature in which Joan Fulton, a professor of agricultural economics, will describe the steps involved in writing a successful grant proposal.

"If people follow the important steps, they can be successful in obtaining grant funds, which allow them to get resources to proceed with expansion projects for their farm that would not otherwise be possible," Fulton said.

This workshop is geared toward producers and agriculture professionals in Illinois and Indiana who want to compete to receive grant money to help fund research, demonstrations or educational material on profitable, environmentally sound and socially responsible agriculture, Jordan said.

During the workshop various experts will present information on the different ways to write and put together a grant proposal.
