Billman-Kegley Enterprises expands

RUSHVILLE — Billman Kegley Enterprises, LLC (the holding company for Billman Trucking, Inc. and Tommy’s Diesel Shop, Inc.) is owned by Jerome Billman and Ryan Kegley. They have moved into a new and larger building in New Point, within sight of I-74 in eastern Decatur County.

Friendship State Bank and Indiana Statewide Certified Development Corporation assisted Billman in securing land and constructing his new building. Friendship State Bank and Indiana Statewide CDC provided financing from the U.S. Small Business Administration 504 loan program.

Billman founded Billman Trucking with a single truck in 1982. The company now employs more than 40 people in hauling general freight including metal, motor vehicles, machinery, farm equipment, logs, paper products and beverages.

Tommy’s Diesel has eight employees. It repairs trucks and trailers and performs 24-hour road service and towing. Tom Tellas formed the company in 1988. Billman, a longtime friend, purchased it when Tellas died in 1998.

Indiana Statewide CDC works with local lenders to provide SBA 504 loans to expanding companies. Congress created the SBA 504 program so that small business owners would have access to long-term, fixed rate financing.

Executive Director Jean Wojtowicz says that the Indiana Statewide CDC has invested over $400 million in more than 1,000 Indiana companies since 1983, creating or saving 26,500 jobs. Indiana Statewide CDC is the leading SBA 504 lender in Indiana.

Nationally, since 1983, SBA 504 loans have funded over $62 billion to more than 130,000 small businesses. In turn, those small firms have created or retained over 2.1 million jobs for the U.S. economy.

Billman says, “I was impressed by the attention to detail and follow-through from the Indiana Statewide CDC and Friendship State Bank. The 504 loan is great for my business.”

Jeff Dougan of Friendship State Bank says, “This is a great project for Mr. Billman, our bank and the Indiana Statewide CDC. Billman Trucking has a great reputation, and this new facility allows them to accept additional business that they had to turn away before.”

Billman Trucking and Tommy’s Diesel had separate shops before moving into their new building. At 10,000 square feet, their new facility is three times larger than the trucking company’s old building, and the increased space allows them to house their shops under one roof.
