Orme selected for prestigious Monsanto summer internship

One of only 50 interns nationwide to gain hands-on agricultural sales experience

RUSHVILLE — Nearly 75 percent of college students participated in internships this summer to prepare for the job

market, and demand for these positions is higher than ever. This summer, Justin Orme from Rushville, joined the more than 21 million Americans who produce, process and sell the nation's food and fiber, during an internship with Monsanto(c) Company.

Orme, one of 50 select interns, assisted the sales force in Iowa while making industry connections, networking with other young professionals and gaining hands-on agricultural experience.

"We selected the 2012 class of interns from a broad group of applicants from across the U.S.," said Rodd Whitney, Monsanto talent acquisition specialist. "They represent some of the finest young agriculturalists in the nation and share Monsanto's passion for helping our growers succeed and feeding a hungry planet."

From May 21 through Aug. 10, Orme built strong sales skills and relationships with customers by completing a pre-assigned project. With the guidance of an area business manager and local sales representative, he called on customers and assist the local sales team in delivering outstanding customer service.

"This internship has been an eye-opening experience," Orme said. "I've enjoyed learning about sales, getting out in the field, and working directly with the growers and dealers to ensure satisfaction in

maintaining the seeds they need."

Orme attends Purdue University. Outside of the classroom, he is involved in Alpha Gamma Rho and International Ag Ambassadors and enjoys bow hunting, fishing, boating, and livestock shows. Upon graduation, he plans to pursue a career in seed sales with the goal of eventually heading back to his family farm and helping educate young people about the importance of agriculture.

The Monsanto summer intern program has been active for more than a decade. More than 70 percent of Monsanto territory sales managers begin their professional careers in agriculture as summer sales interns.

"This is an exciting time to be involved in the agriculture industry, and these young people will face one of the greatest opportunities and challenges ever - feeding a growing planet." said Whitney.

Monsanto Company is a leading global provider of technology-based solutions and agricultural products that improve farm productivity and food quality. Monsanto remains focused on enabling both small-holder and large-scale farmers to produce more from their land while conserving more of our world's natural resources such as water and energy.

This month, the Dow Jones Industrial Average hit a milestone, when, for the first time, it closed above 15,000.  Of course, 15,000 is a nice, round number, and it sounds pretty big - but what does it mean to you, as an individual investor? Is it cause for celebration - or is it more of a “caution” flag?
