Greetings, one and all, and welcome! Mail remains steady, and for that I thank you. We’ll get to it shortly. First, a few thoughts from Your Humble Narrator (that’s me).
n My thanks to the RCHS Class of ‘84. It was good to see so many old friends together in one place. I e-mailed a class photo to those of you who gave me an e-mail address but some of them bounced back. If you want a copy contact me here at the office and I’ll make sure I have the right info to get you one.
The photo is also available in “My Photos” at www.myspace.com/djkevingreen.
n Providing the weather doesn’t spoil things, there’s lots on tap for July 4.
The Optimist Club’s car show and swap meet gets underway at 8 a.m. in North Veterans Memorial Park.
The parade will run from the downtown area to the fairgrounds at 11 a.m. It’s headed up Main Street.
The farmers’ and artisans’ market will operate from 9 a.m. to noon in the 100 block of West Third Street (note change in location.)
Briar Patch shows will take place at 2 and 5 p.m. at the Laughlin Center.
Capping off the day will be the annual fireworks show at 10 p.m. north of Rushville Elementary School. Music for this year’s show will be broadcast on WKPW 90.7 fm (note change in radio station).
It should be a fun-filled day. My Happy Independence Day wishes go out to everyone reading this!
With all of that being said, let’s check the mail and see what’s up with The Roiling Hundreds!

n Why is it that people are looking to get something for nothing? If you want a right of way buy it. The inconvenience it causes the land owners will be twice what they get paid. How would you like it if someone put a road through the middle of your property?
n If God brings you to it (and you have faith) He'll bring you through it!
n Yeah, the Beatles are the greatest! Even after being broke up since 1970 and two of its members dead, the Beatles have still sold the 2nd highest amount of CDs this decade. (http://www.bukisa.com/articles/102651_top-selling-music-artists-of-the-2000s) Not bad for a couple of dead guys and the other two in their late 60s. (It’s interesting to note that, according to the site you reference, Eminem is the No. 1 selling recording artist of the current decade. Personally, I’ll stick with the Lads from Liverpool. kg)
n The judge didn't vote "with the party" on the ISSCH issue. In fact, within the Republican party there was disagreement on this issue. The judge ruled in favor the executive branch of state government having the authority to make executive decisions.
n Life is what happens when you're making other plans.
n Regarding this year’s Rush County Fair Queen Pageant: To all involved with the contest, you all did a wonderful job! Your contest is very lovely. Good work girls!
n Karen, Paula and the rest of the committee did a wonderful job with the 50th anniversary of the past Miss Rush County. It was very organized and we all had a great time talking about our memories. Thanks, ladies, for all of your hard work!
n We have a duty to encourage one another. Many a time a word of praise or thanks or appreciation or cheer has kept a man on his feet. Blessed is the man
who speaks such a word. — William Barclay
n How can someone in a public park be arrested for trespassing when there were a couple hundred other people there at the same time? I saw the arrest but I didn’t see anyone resisting.

Legislation isn't a cure all for everything
As the presidential election season continues to unfold, which it started doing right after the last presidential election, I've been giving a fair amount of thought to the relevance of social issues as legitimate topics for political debate or, for that matter, as relevant issues for the federal government at all!

Grandpa says: The grand old game
When I was a very young boy, I became infatuated with the game of basketball. I don't know how young I was, but I do remember it kept me from getting my knuckles cracked with a ruler in the second grade.

Actions and their consequences
Consequences and the lack of them are one of the main problems our country faces today. There are so many different instances where the circumstances of an action are basically nil and hence no reason for the perpetrator not to do them again.

Farmers slow to embrace the Iron Age of agriculture
Grandpa says... Hart-Parr made the first successful line of farm tractors in 1904, but it was another 50 years before tractors outnumbered horses on U.S. farms.

The power of Internet persuasion
"The Internet is like having a world-wide central brain of knowledge that leaks and spills out into another's thoughts and dreams to either make a reality come true or crush it altogether." (Karen Gunn - Indiana Student)

Old Floss: Horse power with a soft muzzle
