Rushville Music Study Club presents “Christmas at the Movies” Wednesday
The Rushville Music Study Club extends an open invitation to its Christmas musical program at 7 p.m. Wednesday. This program is open to the public and will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, corner of Third and Morgan streets, Rushville.
The festive evening will include songs from several Christmas movies as well as traditional holiday pieces. The audience is sure to enjoy a variety of vocal numbers, a women’s trio, flute and organ solos, as well as organ and piano duets.
The club is honored to have guest performer Sherry Sutton as well as local musicians Sam Chizmar and Bill Craven. Other participants include club members Margie Schwering, Carolyn Sorber, Annette Niehoff, Cindy Powers and Linda Hood.
The club is fortunate to have guest organist Chris Johnston perform several solo organ selections. Johnston has planned a program that spans a wide variety of musical styles including classical pieces, Christmas numbers, and songs specifically arranged for the theatre organ. He is from Mason, Ohio where he has performed on Wurlitizer theatre organs at Emory Music Theatre, the Sharonville Music Palace and the Victoria Theatre. Johnston is the head organist at St. Susanna Catholic Church and assistant director of the Blue Moon Jazz Group, all in the Cincinnati area.
A free-will offering will be taken to support the Rushville Music Study Club scholarship fund, which presents an annual scholarship to a graduating senior continuing his or her music education.
