RUSHVILLE —
Fifth-eight descendants of former Rushville residents Braxton and Lizzie Harper reunited for the 51st year on Aug. 15 in Falmouth, Ky., at Camp Northward. Relatives from Virginia, Kentucky and Indiana gathered for a church service at 11 a.m. that included traditional communion. Worship in song and word was conducted by the Rev. H. Wayne Keith of the campground. Following the church service, a delicious carry-in meal was enjoyed by all. One family had five generations in attendance: Jonathan Smith, great-great-grandfather, Carol Mains, great-grandmother, Sandy Heck, grandmother, Josie Heck, mother, and Madison Lynn Watts, 2-week old daughter, who illustrated the fact that six generations have now descended from Braxton and Lizzie Harper. The business meeting of the family was held and it was decided, as normal, to move the reunion back to Indiana in 2011. An executive committee of Sue Smith, Nancy Cook, Carlene Doan and Cathy Sipes was elected. A communications committee of Duane Beaver and David Beaver was elected, and Vickie Smith, Amy McCall and Shelby McCall were elected as the finance committee. Those in attendance from Rushville, Ind. were Marge Fletcher, Ashley Fletcher, Bronc Fletcher, Skylar Fletcher, David W. Smith, and Dorris McAlister. Tommie and Cathy Sipes came from Shelbyville, Ind. Jonathan and Garnetta Smith as well as Amy and Shelby McCall attended from Cynthiana, Ky. Johnathan Smith Jr., and Judy Courtney came from Lexington, Ky. From Georgetown, Ky., attendees were Bobbie and Sheila Bruin, Maggie Jenkins and Tracy Helton. From Falmouth, Ky., Rebecca Gallagher, Joe and Sandy Heck, Josie Heck, Madison Watts, David and Carol Mains, Franklin Jones and David Mains Jr. and Cody Mains attended. From Louisville, Ky., Dillard and Carlene Doan and Rick Smith were present. Earl and Virginia Wills and Pam Teegarden came from Independence, Ky., and Duane Beaver and Brittany Beaver attended from Indianapolis, Ind. Brett and Sara Hilsmeyer from Evansville, Ind., and Andy and Vivian Smith from North Vernon, Ind. were in attendance. Others enjoying the day were Glenda Cummins and Angela Smith from Ft. Mitchell, Ky., and Mike and Sue Smith and daughter Sarah from Glenwood, Ind. Also attending was David Beaver from New Market, Va., George Fletcher from Williamsburg, Ind., Garry and Debbie Mullins from Southgate, Ky., Harold and Nancy Cook and Zack and Carter Hughes from Losantville, Ind., along with Emma and Liam Lechner from Tipton, Ind. also were present. Jim and Vickie Smith from North Manchester, Ind. completed the relatives who reminisced during the day.Features
