Markley completes Basic Training
PV2 Mickey R. Markley, husband to Erica Markley of Mays and son of Mickey Markley of Rushville and Rebecca and Steve Chappelow of Connersville, recently completed basic training in Fort Sill, Okla. He successfully completed 10 weeks of training designed to challenge new Army recruits both physically and mentally. Markley and his fellow recruits began their training each day by marching many miles and performing calisthenics.
In addition to the physical training program Markley spent numerous hours in classroom and field assignments which included learning first aid, uniform regulations, combat arms, basic rifle marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat and assorted weapons training.
Markley also received instruction on the seven US Army core values: Loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage. He was awarded sharpshooter in marksmanship, honor graduate, his platoon was honor platoon, he was promoted and received a letter of commendation.
After graduation from Fort Sill he will be stationed at Fort Eustis, Va. for 28 weeks of Advanced Individual Training for Avionics Mechanic.
Markley is a 2005 Rushville Consolidated High School in Rushville.
