n The Rush County Players will be having their annual membership meeting and Hammy Awards dinner Friday at the 201 building.
SATURDAY (8/15)
n Lewisville Lodge No. 72 F.&A.M.; is having a chicken and noodle dinner from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Lewisville Masonic Temple. Cost is a free-will offering. Co-sponsored by Eastern Star No. 463 of Lewisville.

n Memory Crafters will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Main Street Christian Church. We will have a short lesson by Melody Lemmons, "Stamp Ink: What Are The Differences?.”

n American Legion Women’s Auxiliary Post No. 150 is having its monthly meeting at the American Legion Post in Rushville. Meeting will start at 7 p.m. Wednesday and will be taking membership dues and sign-ups for new memberships from 6 to 7 p.m. Please come see what good things we are doing.
WEDNESDAY (8/26)
n Benjamin Rush Middle School will host a Taco Night and open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 26. Carry-outs available. Cost is $4.50 per person. The open house will be from 7 to 8 p.m.
n Manilla Town & Country Homemakers Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Dutch Mill Buffet in Milroy. Norene Wright is co-hostess. Members are asked to call Norene with reservations by Aug. 24. The "Homemakers Grace" will be the devotion. Roll call: "What dish did you particularly enjoy eating tonight?" There will be no lesson this month.

n Manilla Lions Club is hosting a pork chop dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Aug. 28 at their community building in Manilla. Adults, $8; children 12 and under, $4.
SATURDAY (8/29)
n The premier A Walk for Alex will be August 29. Registration for the autism awareness 5K walk will be from 8 to 9 a.m. with the walk from 9 to 11 a.m. starting at the Rush County Fairgrounds. All proceeds will go into an ongoing endowment fund that has been set up at the Rush County Community Foundation to help aid families in Rush County that have autistic children. Preregister by Aug. 1 to be guaranteed a shirt. May also register on day of walk. Fees: Walk only $5, walk and T-shirt $15, family includes two T-shirts $25, each additional T-shirt $10. n There will be a benefit ride to help raise money for improvements as well as new equipment in McNabb Park in Carthage on Aug. 29. The event is being held in memory of Crysten and Jett Williams, a mother and son killed in an auto accident on I-70 earlier this year. Sign-up begins at 9 a.m. at the Pit Stop in Carthage. Last bike leaves at 11:30 a.m. Ride will conclude at the Hall residence, 11961 N. Goose Road, Knightstown where there will be a hog roast, benefit action, live band and cash bar. n Second annual Cassie's Cause 5K Run/Walk will take place at 9 a.m. Sept. 12 at Knightstown's Sunset Park. The run celebrates the life of Cassie Taylor, whose young life was shortened by a drug overdose in 2007. All proceeds go toward payment for D.A.R.E. education in all Henry County schools. n Free student evaluations are being offered at Rushville Public Library from 6 to 8 p.m. every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for anyone of any age with the purpose of recovery from past struggles in school and/or at work. Some of the learning issues may include reading, math, how to learn, how to store information in the brain for the long-term instead of the short-term, how to be organized, how to focus and concentrate, how to take notes and tests, how to study, ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, and more. This free evaluation process will continue Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at RPL through at least the end of the year. For more information or questions call (765) 932-2490.

n The Community Food Pantry is open every Tuesday and Thursday and the last Saturday of every month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 109 East Third Street. Please bring your photo ID. Donations are welcome.

n The Board of Health for Rush County will hold its monthly meetings at 7 p.m. every third Tuesday except for December, when there is not a scheduled meeting.
n The Alzheimer’s Association offers support groups for caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias. Participants receive emotional support, practical assistance in coping with issues they face and the latest information about research. Meetings are confidential and free. Meetings are held in Rushville at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month at Rush Memorial Hospital, 1300 N. Main Street, third floor conference room.
