WEDNESDAY (8/26)

n Benjamin Rush Middle School will host a Taco Night and open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Carry-outs available. Cost is $4.50 per person. The open house will be from 7 to 8 p.m.

n Manilla Town & Country Homemakers Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Dutch Mill Buffet in Milroy. Norene Wright is co-hostess. The "Homemakers Grace" will be the devotion. Roll call: "What dish did you particularly enjoy eating tonight?" There will be no lesson this month.

n Noble Niters will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the home of Amy Ploeger. Linda Murphy will be the co-hostess. Title of the lesson will be “The Challenge of Healthy Restaurant Eating.” Dixie Meyer will serve as leader. Connie Meyer will provide inspiration. Roll call response will be “Do You Fly A Flag?”



THURSDAY (8/27)

n The I-CAP Board of Directors will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the New Castle office.



FRIDAY (8/28)

n Manilla Lions Club is hosting a pork chop dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Friday at their community building in Manilla. Adults, $8; children 12 and under, $4.



SATURDAY (8/29)

n The premier A Walk for Alex will be Saturday. Registration for the autism awareness 5K walk will be from 8 to 9 a.m. with the walk from 9 to 11 a.m. starting at the Rush County Fairgrounds. All proceeds will go into an ongoing endowment fund that has been set up at the Rush County Community Foundation to help aid families in Rush County that have autistic children. Preregister by Aug. 1 to be guaranteed a shirt. May also register on day of walk. Fees: Walk only $5, walk and T-shirt $15, family includes two T-shirts $25, each additional T-shirt $10. n There will be a benefit ride to help raise money for improvements as well as new equipment in McNabb Park in Carthage Saturday. The event is being held in memory of Crysten and Jett Williams, a mother and son killed in an auto accident on I-70 earlier this year. Sign-up begins at 9 a.m. at the Pit Stop in Carthage. Last bike leaves at 11:30 a.m. Ride will conclude at the Hall residence, 11961 N. Goose Road, Knightstown where there will be a hog roast, benefit action, live band and cash bar. n American Legion Family Day will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday in Rushville Riverside Park. Music, games, food and drinks. Entertainment includes the Bustin’ Loose Band, Away From Angus and Public Disturbance. Open to one and all!

n Blue River Community Harvest, Rush County’s newest food pantry, will host a summer festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 9462 N. Carthage Pike. Admission is one can of food per person. Crafts, food, games, dunk tank, pie eating contest and silent auction among what’s planned. Booth space available for $10. n Rushville Church of Christ, 627 W. 11th Street, Rushville, is hosting its Fifth Sunday Rally at 6 p.m. Sunday. Gail Bostic and Steve Powers will perform in concert and Howard Bullard will provide the message. Refreshments will follow the service. Everyone is invited.



Monday (8/31)

n Rush County Farm Bureau, Inc. members are going on a tour of Fair Oaks Dairy Farm Monday. Everyone is welcome. Please call 765-932-5961 to make payment and reservations by Friday.

WEDNESDAY (9/2)

n The Columbus Star Quilters will meet at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 2 at the Masonic Temple at Rocky Ford and Taylor Roads. This month the guild is hosting nationally known author, columnist, and quilter extraordinaire, Helen Squire. SATURDAY (9/5)

n 46th semi-annual Milroy Amish School auction will start at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 5 at the Clarence Schrock Farm, 4126 W 900 S, Milroy. This will be a consignment auction, bake sale, quilt sale. Items include horses, tack, ponies, lawn mowers, shop and power equipment, antiques, etc. Food and drinks available throughout the auction. For more info call Sarah Ann at 765.629.2921.



WEDNESDAY (9/9)

n Arlington School is celebrating its 100th year in education! In honor of the event, the PTO is having spirit wear printed with the years 1909-2009 on the items. If any alumni would like to purchase a T-shirt or sweatshirt, stop by the school to pick up an order form or call Julie Leisure at 565-6236 for details. Orders will be placed Sept. 9, so don't delay in making your request. Checks should be made payable to the Arlington PTO, and the prepaid items will be ready to be picked up at the school by the end of September.



THURSDAY (9/10)

n All Local UAW 1118 who are drawing a pension from the union are invited to a retiree pitch-in lunch at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 10 at Eastside Methodist Church in Connersville. Bring a filled covered dish. Drinks, plates, etc. will be provided. Come alone or bring a spouse/friend. Widows also welcome. It’s a casual event so come, relax and enjoy.



SATURDAY (9/12)

n Second annual Cassie's Cause 5K Run/Walk will take place at 9 a.m. Sept. 12 at Knightstown's Sunset Park. The run celebrates the life of Cassie Taylor, whose young life was shortened by a drug overdose in 2007. All proceeds go toward payment for D.A.R.E. education in all Henry County schools. TUESDAY (9/15)

n Area 9 In-Home & Community Services Agency’s 2009 Senior Picnic will be from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at Dunlapsville Pioneer Village, near Quakertown Recreation Area on Brookville Lake. Games, entertainment and a cook-out lunch are planned, promoting unity among the area senior population. A pontoon boat ride, health fair and “old time car corral” are also planned. Persons age 60 and over are encouraged to attend. A donation of $3 for those 60 and over, and $4 for those under age 60, is requested to help cover the cost of lunch. WEDNESDAY (9/16)

n There will be a Revival “kick off” concert at 7 p.m. Sept. 16 at First Southern Baptist Church on Airport Road, Rushville. The Diplomats from Georgia are returning to sing praises to the Lord. A tent revival will start at 7 p.m. Sept. 17 and continue each evening at 7 p.m. through Sept. 19. There will be special music each evening. Everyone is invited. SATURDAY (9/19)

n The fourth annual Donnie Frazier Scholarship Golf Outing will be held Sept. 19 at Antler Pointe Golf Course. Four-member teams will tee off at 11 a.m. in an ABCD scramble format. SATURDAY (9/26)

n Area Boy Scouts will participate in a Rush County Camporee Sept. 25 to 27 at the amphitheater. Sept. 26 we invite Rush County to come and see what Boy Scouts is all about. There will be lots of activities for everyone to do, including a hog roast and a performance by the Crossroads of America Scout Band, so please join us for a day filled with fun and fellowship.



MISCELLANEOUS

n Free student evaluations are being offered at Rushville Public Library from 6 to 8 p.m. every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for anyone of any age with the purpose of recovery from past struggles in school and/or at work. Some of the learning issues may include reading, math, how to learn, how to store information in the brain for the long-term instead of the short-term, how to be organized, how to focus and concentrate, how to take notes and tests, how to study, ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, and more. This free evaluation process will continue Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at RPL through at least the end of the year. For more information or questions call (765) 932-2490.

n A dance at the Raleigh Community Club is held from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. every Saturday. Everyone is welcome.

n The DAV veterans van is now in Rush County. If you have an appointment at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis call (765) 932-3075, seven to 10 days in advance. Veterans who need a ride sooner call (765) 561-5445 or (765) 932-2703.

n The Community Food Pantry is open every Tuesday and Thursday and the last Saturday of every month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 109 East Third Street. Please bring your photo ID. Donations are welcome.

n The Rush County Victim's Assistance, Inc. has its monthly meeting on the third Monday of each month at 6 p.m. For location please contact the office at 938-1555. The public always is invited to attend. For more information contact Barbara Kuhn at 938-1555.

n The Board of Health for Rush County will hold its monthly meetings at 7 p.m. every third Tuesday except for December, when there is not a scheduled meeting.

n The Alzheimer’s Association offers support groups for caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias. Participants receive emotional support, practical assistance in coping with issues they face and the latest information about research. Meetings are confidential and free. Meetings are held in Rushville at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month at Rush Memorial Hospital, 1300 N. Main Street, third floor conference room. n A parent support group meets at 6 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month in the Rushville Public Library meeting room. This group is for parents, guardians, caregivers or any family member of someone with mental or physical challenges. Those attending the group decide the topics. n Rushville Kiwanis meets at 6 p.m. on the first, third and fifth Wednesday of each month at the Flatrock Grill in Rushville. Everyone is welcome.

n The Rush County Local Emergency Planning Committee meets on the third Monday of every even month. Meetings are held at 7:30 p.m. in the Rushville Police Department meeting room, 270 W. 15th Street, Rushville. The public is welcome.
