TUESDAY (7/28)

n The Rush County Fiber Board will meet at 4 p.m. today at City Hall, 133 West First Street, Rushville.



THURSDAY (7/30)

n Registration for Rushville Elementary School will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. until noon Friday. Registration at Arlington, Mays and Milroy will also be taking place in keeping with this schedule.

n Rush County has received $5,987 FEMA stimulus funds. These funds are intended to be used for emergency housing, shelter and food pantry services. A meeting of the FEMA board is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Thurs at the Booker T. Washington Community Center in Rushville. Anyone interested should contact Linda Wildey at 765-932-2863.

n The First Church of God of Rushville will be having a rummage and bake sale in the church's gymnasium from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday.



FRIDAY (7/31)

n Homer C.U. Church will have an inside rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. Clothes, crafts, dishes, toys, kitchen cabinets, Christmas items and more.

SATURDAY (8/1)

n Rushville's fifth-grade girls’ travel basketball team will hold a car wash at 9 a.m. Saturday at Wal-Mart.

n Mark your calendars for 7 p.m. Saturday at Plum Creek Christian Church for “Music, Music, Music,” a praise-fest led by the youth of the church including the young at heart. Several individuals are scheduled to be featured on the drums. It is open to anyone and everyone.

n Annual pork chop dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Posey Township Volunteer Fire Department. Pork chops, green beans, corn on cob, baked potatoes, bread and butter, tomatoes, chips, applesauce, drink, dessert. Per person $8, hot dog meal $3.



SUNDAY (8/2)

n There will be a VBS celebration during the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday with a cookout following for students and their families at First Southern Baptist Church. There will be no evening service that day.

n There will be a pancake and whole hog sausage breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. Sunday at Millhousen Knights of St. John. Free-will offering. Proceeds for renovations to hall.

n Stagg’s Dairy Treats will host Rush County 4-H Day from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. Ten percent of all sales that day will be donated to the Rush County 4-H program. Please plan to visit Stagg’s on this date!



WEDNESDAY (8/5)

n Children 3 years old and older are invited to Big Flatrock Christian Church’s Vacation Bible School “Studio Go.” VBS will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 5 through 7. THURSDAY (8/6)

n The next Lunch and Learn in the Victory Garden Series will be from noon to 1 p.m. Aug. 6 at Hancock County Purdue Extension. Bring your lunch and come sample some local harvest as well as learn how to make Indiana Salad Soup, a local variation of gazpacho. Also, bring your harvest time questions and samples of ill or damaged plants from your own garden for identification and treatment strategies. Please RSVP by 3 p.m. July 30 at 317-462-7605.



FRIDAY (8/7)

n Manilla Volunteer Fire Department will have a fish fry from 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 7 with entertainment by Shelby County Community Choir and groups. Blood mobile also will be there.



SATURDAY (8/8)

n Rush County Bikers Toys for Tots five-county poker run will be Aug. 8. Sign-up 10 a.m. to noon at Daddy’s Diner (fka Miller’s Drive In) in Rushville. Per bike, $15 plus $5 per rider. n Manilla Volunteer Fire Department will have a breakfast of sausage and gravy, eggs, bacon, pancakes and fried potatoes from 6 to 10 a.m. Aug. 8. Fish fry and car show from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.



WEDNESDAY (8/19)

n American Legion Women’s Auxiliary Post No. 150 is having its monthly meeting at the American Legion Post in Rushville. Meeting will start at 7 p.m. and will be taking membership dues and sign-ups for new memberships from 6 to 7 p.m. Please come see what good things we are doing.



SATURDAY (8/29)

n The premier A Walk for Alex will be Sunday9. Registration for the autism awareness 5K walk will be from 8 to 9 a.m. with the walk from 9 to 11 a.m. starting at the Rush County Fairgrounds. All proceeds will go into an ongoing endowment fund that has been set up at the Rush County Community Foundation to help aid families in Rush County that have autistic children. Preregister by Aug. 1 to be guaranteed a shirt. May also register on day of walk. Fees: Walk only $5, walk and T-shirt $15, family includes two T-shirts $25, each additional T-shirt $10. n Enrollment for all Benjamin Rush Middle School students in grades seven and eight for the 2009-2010 school year will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 4:30 to 7 p.m. Aug. 5 and from 8 a.m. to noon Aug. 6. BRMS, 1601 N. Sexton Street, Rushville.

n Have you ever thought of a Catholic school education for your child? Have you ever considered the benefits of a faith-based school? St. Mary Catholic School is accepting names for preschool, kindergarten and new students in grades one through six for the 2009/2010 school year. n A dance at the Raleigh Community Club is held from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. every Saturday. Everyone is welcome.

n The DAV veterans van is now in Rush County. If you have an appointment at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis call (765) 932-3075, seven to 10 days in advance. Veterans who need a ride sooner call (765) 561-5445 or (765) 932-2703.

n The Community Food Pantry is open every Tuesday and Thursday and the last Saturday of every month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 109 East Third Street. Please bring your photo ID. Donations are welcome.

n The Rush County Victim's Assistance, Inc. has its monthly meeting on the third Monday of each month at 6 p.m. For location please contact the office at 938-1555. The public always is invited to attend. For more information contact Barbara Kuhn at 938-1555.

n The Board of Health for Rush County will hold its monthly meetings at 7 p.m. every third Tuesday except for December, when there is not a scheduled meeting.

n The Alzheimer’s Association offers support groups for caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias. Participants receive emotional support, practical assistance in coping with issues they face and the latest information about research. Meetings are confidential and free. Meetings are held in Rushville at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month at Rush Memorial Hospital, 1300 N. Main Street, third floor conference room. n A parent support group meets at 6 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month in the Rushville Public Library meeting room. This group is for parents, guardians, caregivers or any family member of someone with mental or physical challenges. Those attending the group decide the topics. n Rushville Kiwanis meets at 6 p.m. on the first, third and fifth Wednesday of each month at the Flatrock Grill in Rushville. Everyone is welcome.

n The Rush County Local Emergency Planning Committee meets on the third Monday of every even month. Meetings are held at 7:30 p.m. in the Rushville Police Department meeting room, 270 W. 15th Street, Rushville. The public is welcome.
