Rotarians brainstorm and run for the roses
Rushville Rotary met Tuesday at the Park Restaurant. President Jason Clemmons called the gathering to order. Jack Clarkson led the Pledge of Allegiance. Chip West offered a few words of prayer.
Nancy Rice was the Mystery Person. She gave the free lunch to Dr. John Williams.
Leota King was welcomed as a visiting Rotarian and guest.
Shelly King took care of Brag for a Buck. Dr. Steve Sickbert bragged on IU football’s win over Illinois. Dusty Flannery reciprocated by bragging on Purdue’s gridiron victory. Chip West bragged on the RCHS boys’ soccer team for their second consecutive sectional win. Bill Ward boasted about Milroy Elementary’s The League team for gathering more than 5,000 items of clothing for distribution to persons in need. Kevin Green reminded everyone about the HSUR Shrine Club’s annual community breakfast Oct. 31 at the RushShelby Energy Community Building. Jason Forms bragged on Air Evac recently being honored by its parent company. Julie Smith bragged on the success of this year’s Pink Ribbon gala at Rush Memorial Hospital. And Jack Clarkson boasted about having caught his first tarpon while fishing in the Florida Keys; it weighed approximately 40 pounds!
Aside from fining Pam Leisure because her cell phone rang Sergeant-at-Arms Dr. Williams waived all fines.
A brief discussion was held regarding this year’s Veterans Day program, set for Nov. 10 at a location to be determined.
Nancy Bennett was officially welcomed into the club by Membership Chairman Bill Todd.
President Jason then split those present into four groups to brainstorm about fundraising, membership, marketing, and areas the club can improve in overall. Those findings will be presented to the board at its next meeting the last Friday of the month.
President Jason then explained a mini-fundraiser in which persons who signed up for Saturday’s social but didn’t show and other volunteers were assigned numbers and given names.
The seven participants and the rest of the club then went outside where a race was held, with non-racers placing wagers prior to the start of the contest.
Unofficial results showed Chip West in first place with Dan Slaven placing second and Dusty Flannery showing up in the third spot.
This unexpected event was a lot of fun and raised $62. Way to think out of the box, El Presidente.
