OCTOBER

SATURDAY (10/24)

n Scottypaluzza, a benefit for cancer patient Scott Brooks, will take place starting at 5 p.m. today with a hog roast at the Rushville Elks and K of C. Live music, DJs, and more. Open to the public.

n The Rushville Friends of the Library will meet at 10 a.m. today. The meeting will last one hour. All interested persons are invited to attend. Refreshments and child care will be provided.

n Bobby Holmes Benefit Bike Ride will be today. Sign up 11 a.m.; leave Rushville Eagles at noon, to Knightstown American Legion, Pit Stop at Carthage, back to Eagles for food, music, auction. Bobby has been diagnosed with cancer. He is a member of the Rushville Eagle Riders and has participated in fundraisers for others. Auction donations accepted. SUNDAY (10/25)

n The Jackson School alumni will have their 17th annual reunion Sunday at the Jackson Community Building (located where the school used to stand). Pitch-in starts at 12:30 p.m. Please bring a covered dish. We provide the plates, silverware and drinks. Plan to attend if you ever went to Jackson Township School or had friends who attended. Everyone is welcome.

n Ham and bean dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the American Legion, 113 S. Morgan Street, Rushville. Adults, $6; children under 12, $3. Post open 2 to 8 p.m.



MONDAY (10/26)

n Psi Iota Xi Iota chapter of Rushville will be making wonderful cheeseballs just in time for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Varieties are cheddar, cheddar rolled in pecans, chocolate chip and new addition cranberry pecan. Cost is $7. Orders are due by Monday. Please e-mail Kristen or call her at 932-3641.



TUESDAY (10/27)

n Rush County Board of Health will have its regular October meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday instead of the regular scheduled date of Oct. 20.



WEDNESDAY (10/28)

n The Manilla Town & Country Homemakers Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the home of Marilyn White. Thelma Myer will serve as co-hostess. Lois Anderson will give devotions. Roll Call: "Favorite Holiday Food." Nancy Kuhn will give a lesson on "Healthier Holiday Foods/Healthy Holidays."

n Noble Niters will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the home of Christie Singleton with Gina O’Dell as cohostess. Lesson by Beth Barnes will be Healthier Holiday Foods, Healthier Holidays. Roll Call response will be your middle name. Inspiration by Marlene Fudge.

n The Friendly Homemakers Club will meet Wednesday at the home of Barbara Robbins. Marilyn Reynolds will be cohostess. Barbara Robbins will give the inspiration. Roll call will be your favorite holiday. Lesson will be Healthier Holiday Foods by Marilyn Schroeder. All come and have an enjoyable time with a great group of ladies.



FRIDAY (10/30)

n The City of Rushville in conjunction with the Rushville Parks & Recreation Department and Rush County FOP invites everyone to the eighth annual Halloween Costume Parade at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Rush County Fair Grounds Livestock Pavilion. Judging begins at 6 p.m. For all ages. Treat bag for all children. Prize for every child.



SATURDAY (10/31)

n The HSUR Shrine Club of Rush County will host its annual community breakfast from 6 to 11 a.m. Oct. 31 in the RushShelby Energy Community Building on the Rush County Fairgrounds. Full breakfast menu. All you care to eat. Tickets available from local Shriners and at the door. Proceeds benefit Shrine charities and programs.

n Door-to-door trick-or-treating in Rushville will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31 (Halloween night).

n The Heart of Rushville’s Farmers and Artisans Market will be hosting its final market day from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 31. The “season finale” will feature a variety of growers and artisans.

n Trunk or Treat for all of the kids will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 31 at First Church of God (1200 W. US 52, Rushville). There will be a bounce house, games, food, drinks and lots of candy!

n Halloween Karaoke Night will be from 8 p.m. to midnight Oct. 31 at the American Legion, 113 S. Morgan Street, Rushville. Auction, drawing, prize for best dressed costume. Have a great time while helping underprivileged children of Rush County have a Merry Christmas. Sponsored by Rush County Bikers - Toys for Tots.



NOVEMBER

SUNDAY (11/1)

n Holiday Bazaar from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 1 at Batesville primary school and gym. Free admission. Beta Sigma Phi is sponsoring its 37th annual craft show which features handmade crafts, baskets, holiday decorations, jewelry, candles, woodcrafts, gift items, as well as homemade pies and a cookie walk.



THURSDAY (10/5)

n The Boys & Girls Club of Rush County will host its third annual wine tasting and dinner fundraiser starting at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Rushville Elks. SATURDAY (11/7)

n Milroy United Methodist Church will have its annual turkey supper from 5 to 8 p.m. Nov. 7 in the church dining room. Carry-outs available from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Adults $8; children four to 10, $4; children under four, free.

n Big Flatrock Christian Church would like to invite everyone to its annual gospel sing at 7 p.m. Nov. 7. Special guests will be the JJ Singers, Waldron United Methodist Church Praise Band and the Shepard Brothers. Please join us for a wonderful evening of praise, fellowship and refreshments. n American Legion Auxiliary is having a bake sale from 8 a.m. to noon Nov. 7 at the American Legion Post in Rushville. Proceeds will go to the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 150 for community programs and veteran support. We are accepting baked goods for the event. If you want to donate you can drop off baked goods Nov. 6 at the Legion Post.



SUNDAY (11/8)

n Little Flatrock Christian Church will host their annual HARVEST INGATHERING starting at 10:15 a.m. Nov. 8. A pitch-in dinner will follow with meat and drinks provided. The community is invited to attend this special day at LFCC. For more information call 765-932-4900.



TUESDAY 11/10

n A Veterans Day program will be held at 9 a.m. Nov. 10 at Arlington Elementary School in the gymnasium. All veterans and interested persons are invited. For more information call the school at 765-663-2416.



WEDNESDAY (11/18)

n American Legion Auxiliary Unit 150 is having its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Nov. 18. We will discuss poppy sales, holiday events and future goals of the auxiliary. Come see what great things we are doing.



SUNDAY (11/22)

n Rush County Bikers - Toys for Tots 17th annual chili dinner will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 22 at the RushShelby Energy Community Building at the Rush County Fairgrounds. Tickets on sale now from members or at Admiral gas station; $5 per person, 12 and under free. Door prizes and drawing. Santa will be present from noon to 1 p.m. Everyone welcome.



MISCELLANEOUS

n Support the troops through the holidays: The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 150 would like to have the names of those family members who are serving our country that are in our community. We are wanting to be a support group for the family members that are home waiting for their soldier to return, and be able to send care packages to them. Contact the post at 765-561-8896 and allow us to have the information requested. Special thanks to those families that are serving with their loved ones for our freedom.

n AA and Al-Anon meet at 7:30 p.m. Mondays at St. Paul United Methodist Church.

n Al-Anon meets at 6 p.m. every Monday at 333 N. Main Street in Rushville. For information call 765-593-0141.

n Here’s Hope, a Christ-centered, Bible-based support group for anyone that is alcohol or drug dependent meets at 6:30 p.m. every first and third Monday. Call (765) 698-2855 and ask for Rob.

n A dance at the Raleigh Community Club is held from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. every Saturday. Everyone is welcome.

n The DAV veterans van is now in Rush County. If you have an appointment at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis call (765) 932-3075, seven to 10 days in advance. Veterans who need a ride sooner call (765) 561-5445 or (765) 932-2703.

n The Community Food Pantry is open every Tuesday and Thursday and the last Saturday of every month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 109 East Third Street. Please bring your photo ID. Donations are welcome.

n The Rush County Victim's Assistance, Inc. has its monthly meeting on the third Monday of each month at 6 p.m. For location please contact the office at 938-1555. The public always is invited to attend. For more information contact Barbara Kuhn at 938-1555.

n The Board of Health for Rush County will hold its monthly meetings at 7 p.m. every third Tuesday except for December, when there is not a scheduled meeting.

n The Alzheimer’s Association offers support groups for caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias. Participants receive emotional support, practical assistance in coping with issues they face and the latest information about research. Meetings are confidential and free. Meetings are held in Rushville at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month at Rush Memorial Hospital, 1300 N. Main Street, third floor conference room. n Rushville Breakfast Optimist Club meetings are at 6:15 a.m. every Tuesday at the Country Cooker Restaurant. Feel free to contact Shirley Biehl at 765-645-5410.

n A parent support group meets at 6 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month in the Rushville Public Library meeting room. This group is for parents, guardians, caregivers or any family member of someone with mental or physical challenges. Those attending the group decide the topics. n Rushville Kiwanis meets at 6 p.m. on the first, third and fifth Wednesday of each month at the Flatrock Grill in Rushville. Everyone is welcome.

n The Rush County Local Emergency Planning Committee meets on the third Monday of every even month. Meetings are held at 7:30 p.m. in the Rushville Police Department meeting room, 270 W. 15th Street, Rushville. The public is welcome.
