DAR meets in Posey Township
The Rushville Chapter of DAR met Oct. 14 at the home of Priscilla Winkler. Eight members of the Twin Forks Chapter were present and Martha Barnard, State Regent, was the special guest.
Regent Lisa Winship opened the meeting with the Ritual. Pat Carrigan gave the National Defense report. She noted that a new problem is cyber warfare. Kristen Hass gave the President’s General message. The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were given and approved. Julie Newhouse gave an Indian minute report.
Lisa Winship read a brief biography of Francis Lighthorse Lee. She also said that the chapter had two cars in the Rushfest parade. They carried the queen and princess.
Project Patriot was discussed and the chapter voted to give $150. This project is to buy phone cards for current service men and women.
An invitation from the Caroline Scott Harrison Chapter was read for National Defense Day on Nov. 5.
Regent Winship introduced Martha Barnhart, State Regent. She gave a very informative program on the importance of working to make our chapters stronger. She said it is important to attend state meeting to become well-informed of the objectives of DAR. We must look to the future and encourage younger members. DAR strives to support our military. We want to see our students knowledgeable about history and our constitution. We need to keep working on genealogical records.
She said the state has a new Web site and the Regent’s questionnaire now will be done on the Internet, making it much easier. Make the meetings fun and informational. Find speakers outside our own organization and meet in public places where people feel more comfortable. There are pamphlets available that can be placed in libraries with contact information.
Refreshments were served to the 19 members and guests.
