JJ Dinner went well

Rush County Democrats met Nov. 7 for the annual Jefferson-Jackson Dinner at the 201 building in Rushville.

The evening began with a welcome to those present and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Rushville Mayor Merv Bostic introduced Joe Hogsett, keynote speaker for the evening, and presented him with a Key to the City.

After the Star Spangled Banner was sung and the invocation and blessing offered, the gathering settled down to a buffet dinner.

Following the meal, Hogsett, addressed the group.

A native Rushvillian, he began his remarks by telling the group that whenever he addressed a political gathering he always begins his speech with, “Hi, I’m from Rushville, Indiana.”

His speech affirmed the importance of the Constitution’s provision of three separate branches of our governmental system to ensure a “balanced government.” He went on to say this balance continues to be relevant in the present.

He said it was important to see those on the other side of the political aisle not as “enemies” but as “opponents.”

Following Hogsett’s speech, entertainment was provided by Scott Evans, vocal soloist.

Vop Osili, candidate for Indiana Secretary of State, and Sam Locke, candidate for State Auditor, made brief presentations.
