FRANKLIN — Franklin College's chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society received a Gold Award this summer from the National Council of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society for First Year College Students.
The chapter received the award for increasing its membership by 86 percent in the 2006-2007 academic year.
Founded in 1924, Alpha Lambda Delta is a national honor society that recognizes and encourages academic excellence among first year students.
Today Alpha Lambda Delta has more than 250 chapters throughout the United States and more than 750,000 students have been initiated into membership since the first chapter was started.
Among the students initiated into Alpha Lambda Delta last spring were Kira Angle, daughter of David and Jean Angle of Rushville; Melissa Richardson, daughter of Paul and Debbie Richardson of Rushville; Erin Dieckmann, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Dieckmann of Greensburg; Kristen Stout, daughter of Connie Stout of Westport.
Founded in 1834, Franklin College is a residential four-year undergraduate liberal arts institution 20 minutes from downtown Indianapolis. The college prepares men and women for significant careers through the liberal arts, offering its 1,000 students 28 majors including biology, business, education, and journalism. The college was the first institution of higher education in Indiana to admit women and maintains a voluntary association with the American Baptist Churches USA.
