Rotary learns about fine cherry furniture

Rushville Rotary met Tuesday. President Norm Voiles called the meeting to order. Paul Barada Sr. led the Pledge of Allegiance and Kevin Snyder offered an opening prayer.

John Wilson, a guest of Dr. John Williams, was recognized and welcomed.

Paul Barada was the Mystery Person and he gave the free lunch to Dr. Williams.

Shelly Brown was next with Brag for a Buck.

Nancy Rice bragged on her 28th wedding anniversary. Bill Ward bragged on the recent awards program at Milroy school. President Norm bragged on granddaughter Katie Comer’s recent graduation and about having enjoyed having some house guests. Bill Todd mentioned that he took his granddaughter to the Memorial Day Service, which he enjoyed, and complimented Bill Ward for his recent Rushville Republican column. John Worth boasted about having recently passed by Rotary International headquarters. Kathy Lienemann bragged on Bill Todd for selling three of her raffle tickets. Christy Welch paid a buck to report her son pulled his own tooth (his first) recently. Bill Ward chimed back in regarding old photos of Bob Jackman and John Worth he saw hanging in the Milroy school. Dusty Flannery bragged on his nephew for having a good baseball season, and on Paul Barada’s recent Rushville Republican column on the prom. Lastly, Debbie O’Neal bragged on her son, who is now a Special Forces Blackhawk pilot.

Sergeant-At-Arms Dr. John Williams was up next and he fined everyone who had ever had John Wilson as a teacher 50 cents. Also, anyone John had a “good story” on had to pay 50 cents. Finally, everyone who had not yet sold at least five raffle tickets had to pay 50 cents.

Program chair Nancy Rice then introduced her guest, Linda Levi. Linda and her husband Bruce own and operate The Sampler in Homer and Metamora.

The Sampler features fine cherry furniture and Linda shared an interesting history of the business, making good use of some visual aids to help illustrate various points.

The Sampler has been doing business for 63 years. All the cherry used in their products comes from one of two Indiana suppliers. Last year The Sampler shipped goods to 30 states but Linda said much of their business continues to come from Rush and surrounding counties.
