THURSDAY (6/11)
n Rush County Democrat meeting is at 6:30 p.m. today at City Hall, 131 W. First Street, Rushville. Meetings are the second Thursday of each month. All interested persons are welcome and encouraged to attend.
n The Gingham Pals Home Ec Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. today at Rushville Elementary School. Please use the front door. Installation of officers will be held and plans for the club's 50th anniversary will be made. Note change of meeting place.
FRIDAY (6/12)
n Class of '69 eighth reunion party (sounds better than 40th anniversary) will be at 6 p.m. Friday with buffet dinner served at 6:30 p.m. at the downtown Elks ballroom. Drinks available at main bar. There will be entertainment in the new bar/lounge at the Elks with Joe Rigney from 8 p.m. to midnight (open to the public).
n There will be a benefit from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Sara Anne Miller residence, across the highway from Milroy Shoes on State Road 3. The purpose is to help pay medical bills for Maria Lynne Schwartz, a child diagnosed with Type I diabetes. Planned activities include an auction at 6:30 p.m. Open to the public. If you are unable to attend the benefit but would like to donate an account has been set up at Wells Fargo bank (the Menno Schwartz account). SATURDAY (6/13)
n The New Salem Alumni Association will hold its annual banquet and business meeting at 6 p.m. Saturday at the New Salem Lions Club Building. Feel free to come early and browse through the “Eagles Nest,” located at the school site, and socialize with friends. Send reservations to Marcia Carney Snyder at 1287 South State Road 3, Rushville IN 46173. Reservations are $20 for alumni (dues and dinner) and $10 for spouses and guests.
n A prayer tent will be set up at Relay this year Saturday and Sunday. People may sign up for a specific time to pray by contacting Lisa Wagner at 765-529-7908 or tlwagnerfamily@hotmail.com. People are also welcome to enter and pray even if they are not signed up for a specific time.
n Town of Carthage Community Day is Saturday at the fire department: food, music, games, medical helicopter, old-time gun fight actors, and more including town-wide yard sale.
n The Indiana South Youth Choir of the Church of God will perform a concert of praise and worship at 7 p.m. Saturday at First Church of God, 1200 West U.S. 52, Rushville. This choir has 35 talented high school students from across Southern Indiana. Everyone is invited. A free-will offering will be received.
MONDAY (6/15)
n Heart in Hand Quilt Guild will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the County Quilt Barn east of Arlington on U.S. 52. Come share your love of quilts. Lesson for June is applique. Guests are always welcome. For information call 565-6170.
n The Rush County Community Foundation would like to remind all non profit organizations of the upcoming deadline for Community Grants from the unrestricted funds. The deadline for Cycle 2 is 4 p.m. Monday. Applications may be obtained from the Foundation office at 117 N. Main. If questions please call the office at 938-1177. There will be one additional cycle in 2009 with the deadline being 4 p.m. Oct. 15.
TUESDAY (6/16)
n If interested in learning to can and freeze food or you want to know latest techniques Purdue Extension Hancock County is offering a program about basic techniques at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Extension office, 802 N. Apple Street, Greenfield. Topics include canning and freezing procedures, equipment needed, current USDA regulations for canning, and selecting food for freezing and canning. Registration fee is $7. Please preregister by 4 p.m. Monday by calling the Hancock County Extension office at (317) 462-1113.

n The RHS/RCHS Alumni Association 52nd annual reunion banquet will be at 6 p.m. June 20 at the Rushville Elementary School cafeteria. Reservations ($12) due by Saturday to Cinda Pavey, PO Box 134, Rushville IN 46173. At the door $15. Dues $10. Doors open 5 p.m.
n Knights of Columbus No. 769 will have a chicken fry from 5 to 8 p.m. June 20. Price is $8.50 for adults and children are $5.50. All you can eat (dine in only). Carry-outs available. The public is invited to attend.

n The annual Neeb Open will be the second weekend of July. The golf event will be held at Antler Pointe Golf Course on July 11 and the tee time is set for 7:30 a.m. Men and women are both welcome and encouraged to play.

n The annual Orange High School reunion will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 12 at the New Salem Lion’s Club on U.S. 52. n The Community Food Pantry is open every Tuesday and Thursday and the last Saturday of every month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 109 East Third Street. Please bring your photo ID. Donations are welcome.

n The Board of Health for Rush County will hold its monthly meetings at 7 p.m. every third Tuesday except for December, when there is not a scheduled meeting.
n The Alzheimer’s Association offers support groups for caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias. Participants receive emotional support, practical assistance in coping with issues they face and the latest information about research. Meetings are confidential and free. Meetings are held in Rushville at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month at Rush Memorial Hospital, 1300 N. Main Street, third floor conference room.
