RUSHVILLE —
The holiday season is rapidly approaching and so is what has become an annual event, the Xi Eta Xi of Beta Sigma Phi Society Christmas Candlelight House Tour.
Ron and Donna Wilson, 1677 East CR 150N, will be one of the five featured homes on this year's tour that will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 7.
The tour donation cost is $6, with all proceeds going to a variety of community projects.
Monies from past events have aided the Boys & Girls Club of Rush County, Phoenix House and the Rush County Animal Shelter, to name a few.
The Rush County Senior Center, 504 West Third Street, Rushville will host a Christmas Bazaar in conjunction with the Candlelight Tour.
The Wilsons have lived in the four bedroom, three and one-half bath residence for 18 years. The home also features three fireplaces.
There is 4,000 square feet of living space in the home; a large open space in the front section of the home serves as the living room, office space and dining room.
The family room has storage closets on the west side with oak doors and two large picture windows that face the outdoor pool area.
During a 2002 remodel, a master bedroom with a gas fireplace was added that included a Jacuzzi bath, shower and double sink vanity and a large walk-in closet.
At that time, a large vinyl deck was added with an entrance from the master bedroom and kitchen. The Wilsons also had a vinyl fence put up around the in-ground pool area.
The kitchen was remolded with hand-crafted oak cabinets that were made by the late Phil Hankins, and all of the cedar was covered with oak. Oak laminate flooring was placed in the kitchen and the half-bath accessible from the kitchen.
The family room has storage along one wall and now includes a laundry room and a gas fireplace. Oak was additionally used to replace or cover cedar in the family room. New vanities were placed in the upstairs bathrooms.
Christmas decorations and trees can be found in each downstairs room. Holiday themes include a John Deere tree, patriotic tree, Rudolph tree and "Ron's tree," which is decorated with very traditional decorations.
Also found will be a nativity scene which has adorned the Wilson home for 25 years. Other decorations in the home include those made by the family's children while they were growing up.
Directions to the Wilson home: North on Fort Wayne Road to CR 150N then turn right (east). Once through the covered bridge the Wilson residence will be the only house on the right.
