The Fitness Initiative Team of Rush County invites you to join in their Walkabouts as part of any get fit and healthy New Year’s resolutions for 2013. Walks and activities scheduled in January include:
Jan. 12 – Feb. 23 – Small Steps to Health & Wealth Winter 2013 Challenge – Details are being confirmed. Watch for more information – www.extension.purdue.edu/rush. Sponsored by the Fitness Initiative Team of Rush County.
Jan. 15 – 4:30 p.m. – FIT Walkabout - Riverside Park, meet by the Amphitheater to view the ice skating rink (in case of snow or extreme cold, meet in the Courthouse)
Jan. 17 – 4 p.m. – Rush County Parenting Council Meeting, in Room 102 at the Rush County Courthouse
Jan. 22 – 7 a.m. – FIT Walkabout - Courthouse – Inside or Outside, meet on the 1st floor of the Rush County Courthouse.
Jan. 28 – 11:35 a.m. – FIT Walkabout - Memorial Gymnasium – Inside or Outside, meet in the lobby of RCHS Memorial Gymnasium.
Feb. 5 – 5:15 p.m. – Partners for a Healthy Rush County, at the Boys & Girls Club of Rush County
Take advantage of opportunities to stay fit every Thursday through Jan. 31, walk with Indianapolis Hiking Club as they visit Rushville with “Get Fit On the Fitness Trail.” Meet at 3:45 p.m. in the parking lot east of Rushville Consolidated High School. This is part of the FIT Walkabout schedule.
Every Friday through Jan. 25, participants of F.I.T. Walkabouts are invited to Anytime Fitness at 4:00 pm. Non-members will be asked to sign the guest register.
The Fitness Initiative Team of Rush County would like to share the availability of indoor walking spaces:
1) Rush County Courthouse – M-F 7 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. and 4 – 5 p.m. (NOTE: Courthouse will be closed on Jan. 21.)
2) Boys & Girls Club of Rush County – M-F 6:30 – 8 a.m. and MWF 1 – 2 p.m., and
3) Memorial Gymnasium (when school is in session) – M-F 6:30 – 8 a.m., MTThF 11:35 a.m. – 12:05 p.m. and Wednesdays 11:20 – 11:50 a.m. These walking opportunities are available during normal business/school schedules.
FIT Walkabouts are sponsored by the Fitness Initiative Team of Rush County. Their goal is to promote & encourage a fit and active lifestyle for residents of Rush County. For more information, call 932-5974.

Rush Memorial Hospital Foundation is accepting nominations for Rush County Youth Volunteer of the Year. This award will be presented to an outstanding Rush County youth by the Rush Memorial Hospital Foundation in recognition of exceptional commitment to philanthropy in the community.

Flatrock celebrating Nursing Home Week
In observance of Nursing Home Week, May 12 to 18, Flatrock River Lodge will host several events, meant to encourage residents, families and other close relatives to “Get personal” with their caregivers. Sharing personal details allows the facility care team to offer a personalized environment, or person-centered care, that is targeted to an individual’s preferences and needs. Thus, this year’s theme is “Team Care: Everyone Pitches In!”

A sharp pain or a tight feeling in the chest, along with shortness of breath . . . By now, most of us have been briefed on the warning signs of a heart attack. But the American Heart Association says those are typical signs of a heart attack in men: for women, they can be different.

5K run/walk to benefit Autism Awareness
Rushville Mayor Mike Pavey will host a 5K run/walk to benefit charitable organizations. The inaugural event will start at 8:30 a.m. April 27 at Riverside Park Amphitheater.
