Letters to the Editor
Correcting Bureau of Motor Vehicles
Dear Editor:
A few days ago I sent the following letter to our state information office as well as to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles headquarters located in Winchester, Ind. I thought it might be of some interest to your readers, so I am offering it as a Letter to the Editor. Thanks a lot.
Greetings, State of Indiana Information Folks:
My name is Norman D. Voiles.
Since the Bureau of Motor Vehicles Web site does not permit e-mailing that organization, other than on specified subjects, I'm depending upon you to make sure this message is received and acted upon by the BMV.
Recently, following the receipt of five fat envelopes from the BMV, I renewed five (5) vehicle registrations via e-mail and credit card. My address for many years has been 1065 S. Airport Rd., Rushville, IN.
Today I received five more fat envelopes in the mail containing an entire new set of registration forms. My name is the same, but the mail is addressed to 2043 S. Airport Rd. 2043 has not been my address for many years.
Apparently some BMV computer dredged up this obsolete address from long ago.
I want you to make very sure that the BMV clearly understands that Norman D. Voiles of 1063 South Airport Rd., Rushville, IN, has in fact already renewed (and received) the new year's registrations and that there is no such address as 2043 S. Airport Rd.
Please confirm via e-mail that this matter has been handled satisfactorily.
Thank you very much.
P.S. If this erroneous duplicate mailing occurred in many instances, think of the wasted postage, printing, labor, etc., etc. Is this a good example of our state government in action?
P.P.S. I've decided to snail-mail a hard copy of this letter to the BMV in Winchester as well.
Norman D. Voiles
