Rushville City Utilities announces policy for disconnection for delinquent accounts

Dear Editor:

At Rushville City Utilities, we try to work with our customers for the best customer service that we can provide. We added an automatic payment program last year to make it more convenient for our customers to make their payments.

If a customer has a delinquent account once in a 12 month period, we send them a notice to let them know that we did not receive their payment. (Note: We only send one notice per customer in a 12 month period).

We feel that communication is key for a good relationship between us and our customers, and we understand that everyone needs help from time to time. In some instances we are able to make arrangements to extend the payment date to allow you the extra time needed to make your payment.

We will no longer allow payment extensions on the actual day the service is to be disconnected. The customer listed on the account must contact our office prior to the disconnect date stated on the bill.

In the event that an account is disconnected due to non-payment of a bill, a collection fee/re-connect fee of $30 plus the amount owed will be charged and must be paid before service is restored. If service is restored after regular business hours, an overtime fee of $45 will be charged as well. These charges are necessary to recoup the added expenses that we incur caused by the non-payment.

We know that with the present economy the way it is, it has put a financial strain on a lot of people, so we need for you to communicate with us as soon as possible when you know that you will be having an issue with paying your bill. We will work with you for a resolution.
