RUSHVILLE —
The Rush County Commissioners met Monday for the second time of the new year.
Rush County Economic and Community Development Board President Terry Jobe announced that former Rushville Mayor John McCane has been selected as the new director of the ECDC.
Jobe and other board members have been looking for a new director since the November 2012 resignation of Jim Finan.
Jobe said McCane will meet with the county leaders in the near future.
Teri Nigh of the Rush County Health Department requested the county leaders make the final two appointments to the Board of Health.
According to Nigh, current medical director Dr. Russell Daugherty needed to be reappointed for a one-year term and a county commissioner replacement was required to fulfill the remaining two-years of former commissioner Tom Barnes’ term.
By unanimous decision, Dr. Daugherty was re-appointed and commissioner Bruce Levi was selected to represent the county on the board.
Rush County Sheriff Jeff Sherwood said recent overcrowding at the Rush County Jail has been alleviated. Currently, the facility houses 41 inmates: three sentenced, two are serving Department of Correction time and four are being held without a bond being set.
In a final matter, county area plan director Kate Meyer said the county has 90 days to appeal a state decision regarding changes to the Rush County Flood Plain Plan.
According to Meyer, the state’s finding will effect roughly 150 residences in Washington Township.
