Cars collide while passing another vehicle

Two westbound vehicles collided as both drivers were attempting to pass a slower vehicle shortly after 12:30 p.m. Monday on U.S. 52 east of Rushville.

Neither driver was injured and both vehicles sustained only minor damage as a result of the accident.

RCSD deputy Mark Click said Debbie Grizzell, 18, of Metamora, was behind the wheel of her 1997 Ford Taurus following a slower. After crossing a bridge she pulled out in an attempt to pass the slower vehicle when she noticed a 2006 Toyota Corolla, driven by Roy Spurlock, 67, of Franklin County, next to her vehicle also attempting to pass the slower vehicle.

“I had no place to go. When I pulled out into the other lane there was this car next to me. I had a car on my left and the slower vehicle on my right,” Grizzell said.

The slower vehicle that was in the process of being passed continued on westbound and did not stop.
