RUSHVILLE —
A Rushville man, Sonny L. Stanley, 32, is facing multiple charges following a stand-off with law enforcement officers.
The event began shortly after 2 a.m. Thursday and ended with Stanley’s arrest more nine hours later, shortly before 11:30 a.m.
Stanley was taken into custody at his residence, 1020 1/2 West First Street, Rushville after being talked out of the home.
The Rushville man is charged with criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, pointing a firearm, neglect of a dependent, domestic battery, intimidation and attempted murder. No bond was listed on the arrest report.
Rush County deputy sheriff Doug Keith said he received a phone call requesting his assistance from an unidentified Stanley family member. The deputy said that during an altercation a number of shots from an unspecified weapon were fired inside the Stanley residence.
“Officers are on the scene removing bullets from walls inside the residence right now,” Keith said more than 13 hours after the initial call for assistance.
The officer continued by saying fellow deputy Matt Hedrick was instrumental in negotiating Stanley’s arrest.
“Matt was a personal friend and had a good relationship with the suspect, and it was decided that he provided the safest and best solution to resolving the situation. Matt was able to talk Stanley out without further incident shortly before 11:30,” Keith said.
Following the arrest, officers located and removed a number of weapons from the residence
Streets in Rushville’s west end were closed as a safety measure while officers from the RCSD, Rushville Police Department and the Indiana State Police worked to talk Stanley out of the residence.
The 100 block of North Ivy Street remained closed near the youth baseball fields in Laughlin Park well into the early evening hours as officer continued their investigation.
Assisting in at the scene were multiple units from the RCSD, Rushville Police Department and the Indiana State Police.
