RUSHVILLE —
The City of Rushville Street Department began work to bring down the unsafe structure at 815 West Ninth Street this week after the Board of Works and Rushville Common City Council approved moving forward using staff resources when possible to remove these dangerous eye sores. The equipment operator is Dan Hoover. The City is also waiting on the termination of utilities at other locations (312 and 314 W. 5th Street and 424 North Harrison) before tear down work on those unsafe buildings begins. The 312 and 314 West 5th Street structure will be brought down by Owens Excavating for a cost of $1,450.00 with the Street Department removing the debris.
City Street Department workers also brought down the unsafe structure at 215 South Pearl Street. Dan Hoover is operating the Backhoe.

FSA announces restart of America’s largest conservation program
Julia A. Wickard, State Executive Director of USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) in Indiana announced FSA is currently conducting Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) signups for both general and continuous CRP. The General Signup began yesterday, May 20, 2013, and continues through June 14. Sign-up for continuous CRP began on May 13 and will continue through Sept. 30, 2013.

County beefs up computer security
During the most recent meeting of the Rush County Commissioners, Rush Count Sheriff Jeff Sherwood informed Bruce Levi, Mark Bacon and Ken Masters that the inmate population at the Rush County Jail continues to increase. According to Sherwood, 46 individuals are currently housed at the facility which is designed for 38 inmates.

Rush County Veterans Service Officer Steve Land and a number of fellow local veterans recently met and completed plans for this year’s local Memorial Day service.

Several organizations are working together to continue to give the Rushville community something to smile about.
The Heart of Rushville Downtown Smile Fund is currently accepting applications for projects. -
Rush County Youth Volunteer of the Year nominations open
Rush Memorial Hospital Foundation is accepting nominations for Rush County Youth Volunteer of the Year. This award will be presented to an outstanding Rush County youth by the Rush Memorial Hospital Foundation in recognition of exceptional commitment to philanthropy in the community.
