Annual Christmas Candlelight House Tour set for Dec. 5

RUSHVILLE — As the holiday season nears, the Xi Eta XI chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Society ‘s annual Christmas Candlelight house tour prepares to ring in the season. This year’s tour features four Rush County homes belonging to: Garry and Deloris Hickman, 825 South Flatrock River Road; Dick and Marge Stevens, 1436 South Flatrock River Road; Junior and Nancy Newton, 7044 West Union Street, Arlington; and Randy and Michelle Reynolds, 3987 North CR 450W.

This year’s event will be held from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 5 and will include tours of all four residences which will be decorated for the holidays. The tour donation cost of $6 will allow the sorority to continue to financially support a variety of local organizations and causes. In recent years, monies from the event have been used to sponsor a child at the Rush County Boys & Girls Club, for the Phoenix House and for the Rush County Animal Shelter, to name a few.

The Rushville Republican will feature stories with brief histories of each residence on the 2012 tour. The first featured residence is the Reynolds’ residence.

The log cabin home was built in 1998 with hand crafted white pine logs.

Reynolds and his brother, Gary, designed the original floor plan of the home that was followed by a 2008 addition that was designed and completed by Michelle and her family.

The five bedroom two bath rural residence comprises 3,400 sq. feet and is located on 11 acres of wooded area in close proximity to the Little Blue River.

The house will be decorated with a collection of Michelle’s Christmas bears, that she has been collecting since 1994. Aside from the Christmas decorations, the residence is also adorned with a traditional log cabin theme that includes, mounted deer, stuffed squirrels, fox fur and items that bring rural life indoors.

In preparation for the Christmas season, on the day following Thanksgiving, the family chose two 10 foot Christmas trees with one placed in the kitchen area and the second placed in the family room to welcome St. Nick. Michelle’s favorite flower is the poinsettia and these will be featured along with different renditions of Santa Claus to be found throughout the home.

Directions to the Reynolds home: U.S. 52 west to CR 450W (turn right). After crossing CR 300N, the residence is located roughly one-mile north on the left, just south of CR 400N. Don’t miss the Annual Christmas Candlelight House Tour Dec. 5.
