RUSHVILLE —
With only two meetings remaining to attend to 2012 business, and two commissioners-elect in attendance, Rush County Commissioners Tom Barnes, Marvin Cole and Ken Masters were greeted with a brief agenda during Monday’s meeting.
County IT Randy Herbert informed the commissioners that as a result of defining dormant and unused phone lines at the courthouse, the county may be able to realize a $20,000 savings.
According to Herbert, some additional fact finding must be completed. He will attend a future meeting with his findings.
Herbert next reported on a three-day server replacement project for the county courts. Funding for the replacement project had been authorized during a November meeting.
John Byrne was reappointed to the Rush Memorial Hospital Board of Directors for a two-year term.
Other appointments made were to the Rush County Health Board, Dr. Fred Philips and Jamie Morgan were reappointed to four-year terms. Commissioner-elect Bruce Levi will replace outgoing commissioner Tom Barnes as the county commissioner board member.
The county leaders next signed a contract for janitorial services at the courthouse with Gilliam Janitorial. The contract is for the same amount as the previous two years.
“In today’s economy, I am glad to see that the janitorial services for the coming year will not reflect an increase expenditure of taxpayer dollars,” Barnes said.
In a final matter, Rush County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Duane Raab said that the inmate count at the Rush County Jail has not decreased much in recent weeks, with a current population of 43 inmates.
