2012 Sewing Seminar and Quilt Show March 31

Sewing seminar registration deadline March 9

RUSHVILLE — On behalf of the Rush County Extension Homemakers, I would like to invite you to the 2012 Sewing Seminar and Quilt Show March 31. The featured presenter this year will be Cindy Claycamp. Cindy is listed as an appraiser with the American Quilter's Society. She will be sharing, "150 Years of Quilting." She will be giving three 40-minute presentations so each participant will have the opportunity to hear her as well as see samples of quilts through the years. Besides Cindy, there will be eight other presenters, and each participant will be able to choose three of the eight. Besides the sessions, there will be plenty of time to visit all of the vendors.

The Sewing Seminar is held in the Red (west) Gymnasium of Rushville Elementary School. In the Blue (east) Gymnasium will be the Quilt Show sponsored by the Heart in Hand Extension Homemakers Club. Admission to the Quilt Show is included with the Sewing Seminar. If you have a quilt that you would like to display in the Quilt Show you may bring it to Rushville Elementary School between 3:30 Ð 5:30 p.m. on March 30. The Sewing Seminar registration form is on the website at www.extension.purdue.edu/Rush . Please complete & clip the bottom of the form and return with your check no later than March 9. Due to space limitations, registration may be limited to the first 150.

"We encourage you to consider bringing friends & family to this special day. We are offering a special price for 4-H members and one accompanying adult of just $10 each. Just mark on the registration form if you qualify for the special price. This could be a great multi-generational day," Gracie Marlatt with Rush County Extension Homemakers said.

"I also invite you to check out our Rush County Fair Book and consider exhibiting in Open Class Home Economics at the Rush County Fair. There are classes for hand and machine quilting as well as other sewing and needlework. If you are not a Rush County resident check the open class requirements for your county," she added.

Committee Members for the event are: Mary Delay, Barb Webb, Sue Netherly, Jane Hallgarth and Annette Fey.

The Sewing Seminar will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with registration at 8:30 a.m. March 31 at Rushville Elementary. The Quilt Show will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

At this year 's seminar each participant will attend a session with our featured presenter Cindy Claycamp. They will also choose 3 from 8 additional mini-sessions. T here will be door prizes, a sack lunch and a quilt show. The cost for the day is $15 which includes lunch.

If you wish to be with a friend for the sessions, please submit those reservations together. Reservations and payments are due to the Rush County Extension Office, 101 E. Second Street, Courthouse, Room 103, Rushville, IN 46173, by March 9. Make checks payable to IEHA Rush County Extension Homemakers.

We will demonstrate what's new in sewing tools & gadgets.

4 Still More Panels by Cathy Burkett/In Stitches

See what can be done with panels, layer cakes and charm packs.

5 Rug Weaving by Tania Nolen/River Lane Weaving

Demonstration of equipment, supplies, techniques & sources.

6 Traditional H and Hooked Rugs by Tracy C. Burns/House on the Hill, Hill Rug Hooking Ð 1850's Fiber Folk Art.

7 Recycle Wool Projects by Joann Koch/JSK Designs

Ideas of what to do with the sweater that shrunk in the wash or that wool skirt that doesn't fit.

8 Memory Quilts by Capi Saxton/Always in Stitches

The Heart in Hand Extension Homemakers Club & Quilt Guild is sponsoring the Quilt Show. It typically features more than 100 quilts. If you wish to enter a quilt in the show, please bring the quilt to the R ushville Elementary School gymnasium from 3:30 toi 5:30 p.m. March 30.

Admission to the Quilt Show is $2 if not attending the Sewing Seminar.

  • Waggener Pool opening Saturday and Sunday

    In an update to this story, the City announced plans today to open Waggener Community Pool earlier than originally planned due to expected high temperatures over Memorial Weekend. Mayor Mike Pavey has asked that the pool be open this coming Saturday and Sunday. Hours will be noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday. The pool will be closed on Monday for Memorial Day and Tuesday, and open again Wednesday, May 30, as was originally scheduled.
