Car crashes into Rushville residence

RUSHVILLE — A report of a vehicle hitting a house was received by the Rushville Police Department shortly before 6 p.m. Friday.

It was estimated the driver, Bradley D. Kennedy II, 26, of Rushville, was traveling nearly 50 mph prior to the incident.

Investigating officer Michael Irvin of the RPD said Kennedy was northbound on Spencer Street. Shortly after crossing Ninth Street, his 2007 Mazda crossed the centerline, drove over a curb and sidewalk and then entered a yard.

The vehicle traveled nearly 500 feet, narrowly missing a number of trees and outlying buildings before going through two sections of fence and striking the rear of a residence owned by Brad Risk.

One occupant was home at the time of the accident and reported hearing a “loud boom.” After she opened a rear room door she found the front of a vehicle protruding inside her residence.

“The driver stated that he was northbound on Spencer Street and was approaching West 11th Street intending to turn eastbound. Prior to reaching the intersection of Spencer Street he blacked out and later woke up in the driver’s seat, inside of a residence,” Irvin said.

A witness was driving a vehicle directly in front of Kennedy prior to the accident and told investigators that the Kennedy vehicle was picking up speed and gaining on their vehicle prior to crossing the road and entering a yard on the west side of Spencer Street.

Following treatment at the scene, Kennedy did not require further medical attention.

The investigation is ongoing at this time, but Irvin said a pre-existing medical condition may have led to the accident.
