RUSHVILLE —
A report of a serious injury accident was received at the Rush County and Fayette County Sheriff's Departments shortly after 3:30 p.m. Monday.
The call resulted in multiple departments responding to the 3500 block of South CR 800E.
It was discovered that three unidentified individuals, two adults and a child, were still inside their inverted Ford Mustang in the middle of the rural road.
Deputy Jack Dare of the FCSD said that it is believed the Mustang was southbound on CR 800E and traveling in the middle of the county road when, after cresting a hill, it came upon a northbound vehicle.
In an attempt to avoid a head-on collision, the driver of the Ford turned to the left and lost control of the vehicle. The driver of the northbound vehicle, Margaret Dye, was still shaken by the experience as medical personnel arrived and began helping the injured.
"As we approached the hill the other car came over the top in the middle of the road and my husband said Ôthey are going to hit us.' I turned and they turned and somehow we missed each other," Dye said.
She continued by saying that she and her passengers could not believe what happened next.
"I looked in my rearview mirror as we passed and saw the car drive straight into the embankment, then it went airborne and rolled. It hit the embankment and then just began rolling down the road," Dye said.
At this stage of the investigation it is unclear who was driving.
All three occupants in the Ford sustained injuries.
