A southbound passerby on SR 3 came upon a vehicle in a field west of the highway and dialed 911 shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
The Good Samaritan then went to check on the driver and informed the dispatcher that he was injured.
Rush County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Duane Raab said Michael E. Guffey, 27, of Henry County was southbound on the state road when for unknown reasons he lost control of his vehicle and left the west side of the road and entered a ditch.
The 2002 Suzuki vehicle Guffey was driving then struck a state highway sign and entered a bean field, traveling roughly 40 yards before coming to a stop.
Assisting at the scene was deputy Mark Click.
“The driver told me that as he was driving he did not know what happened to cause his vehicle to drift to the right and off the road,” Click said.
Guffey was treated by medical personnel for back pain before being transported to Rush Memorial Hospital by Raleigh medical personnel. The full extent of his injuries was unknown at press time.
Guffey’s vehicle was rendered inoperable and was towed from the scene.
Assisting at the scene were units from the RCSD, Indiana State Police, Raleigh Fire and medical personnel and Tompkins Towing of Spiceland.
