Commissioners hear about flood mapping effort

The Rush County Commissioners met earlier this week and dealt with a brief agenda. Rush County Sheriff Jeff Sherwood indicated that other than a brief spike the inmate population at the Rush County Jail has steadily decreased in recent weeks.

“We currently have 45 inmates housed at the facility, nine of which are sentenced, five are Indiana Department of Correction inmates, 14 females and two individuals are being held without bond at this time,” Sherwood said.

He continued by giving the county leaders a year end report for 2009.

In a final matter, Rush County Area Plan director Bill Todd informed the commissioners that upgrades are being made to the Rush County agriculture zone plan and GIS mapping system.

According to Todd, the last update to the county’s FEMA flood plan maps were conducted nearly 20 years ago, in 1982.

The APC director continued by saying that the updates are expected to be completed by 2011 and are being done by the Department of Natural Resources.
