RUSHVILLE —
The Small Steps to Health and Wealth™ Winter Challenge is in the second of six weeks. Carrie Simmermon has invited the participants (including newcomers) to a special session this Saturday, Jan. 26, at 10:15 a.m. at Zumba by Carrie, 306 N. Main Street, rear entrance. Rush Memorial Hospital will provide basic health assessments, Purdue Extension Educator Gracie Marlatt will share a SSHW program and Carrie will lead a demonstration Zumba class.
As an incentive, Carrie has offered gift cards toward Zumba classes. They will be awarded in a drawing among those who submit a completed chart for the first two weeks of the challenge. Charts may be a printout from the national website or may be the paper version that is available. For those who cannot attend on Saturday the chart may be submitted in advance to the Rush County Extension Office, the HR Department of Rush Memorial Hospital or emailed to gnmarlat@purdue.edu.
Currently, 38 people have signed up for the Rush County version of this national online six-week challenge. While it is too late to register for this national challenge, it is not too late to join your Rush County friends & neighbors. Call Purdue Extension – Rush County at 932-5974 to enroll and receive a paper chart that you will use to mark your daily progress. Each day you preform five small behaviors toward improving your health and five toward improving your wealth. Over the six week challenge these small steps can result in behavior change and significant progress.
This program originated through Rutgers Extension and is used by Cooperative Extension Services in various states. Information about this program can be found at http://njaes.rutgers.edu/sshw/. On Facebook, local information can be found on the page for Partners for a Healthy Rush County. Questions can be directed to the Rush County Extension Office at 932-5974 or the Human Resources Department of Rush Memorial Hospital. The local SSHW Challenge is a project of the Fitness Initiative Team of Rush County, one of the action teams of our health coalition, Partners for a Healthy Rush County.
