RUSHVILLE —
Rushville senior Joe Garland used two pins at the New Castle Semistate to
punch his ticket to the IHSAA wrestling state finals. The state finals
will be held at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis with the first
round starting at 6 p.m. Friday.
Friday at the state finals, Garland (36-3) will take on Norman Oglesby
(38-4) from Ben Davis.
Garland reached the state with a 2:46 pin of Jordan Clay of Broad Ripple
in the semistate opening round. In the quarterfinals, Garland pinned
Zionsville’s Austin Brewer in 1:44 to earn the ticket to the state finals.
In the semifinals, Garland lost a close match 3-1 to Donte Winfield of
Perry Meridian. In the match for third place, Garland lost another close
match 4-3 to North Montgomery’s Dakota Ramey.
Rushville’s Garrett Hittle lost his opening round match 9-7 to Lawrence
North’s Joe Fowler.
Rushville’s Robbie Hadley lost his opening match 19-4 to Covington’s
Dalton Hardy.
Both Garland and Hadley also received academic honors. Garland was named
to the 2012-13 Wrestling Senior Academic All-State Team. Hadley was named
honorable mention to the 2012-13 Wrestling Senior Academic All-State Team.
