Residents of Rush and surrounding counties have a chance to get an early start on the Christmas holiday season today as the Heart of Rushville, the Rush County Chamber of Commerce and several downtown merchants team up to bring Rushville “Christmas on Main Street.”
This evening’s event is the local official kick-off to the holiday season.
Plans include bringing Santa to town, a “parade of lights,” extended hours and specials being offered by downtown merchants, free entertainment, visits with Santa, fire-pit warming stations and more!
Parade line-up starts at 5:30 p.m. in the parking lot at Main Street Christian Church. The parade itself will then head south on Main Street at 6 p.m., arriving in the downtown area shortly thereafter.
Anyone interested in being in the parade is encouraged to do so. Participants should light-up their vehicles, floats, bikes and even themselves if possible.
In addition to existing merchants, assorted vendors will be set up in the downtown area offering a variety of goods and food.
Third Street will feature a tent with children’s activities inside.
The RCHS Jazz Band will be performing in the Willkie Park gazebo.
“We think this is going to be a fun and exciting start to the holidays,” Chamber and Heart of Rushville director Sandy Fussner said. “There are several things going on and, of course, there’s the parade. The children will get a chance to share their Christmas wishes with Santa, who will be in his house in Willkie Park. We hope we’ll have a lot of community support for this annual event.”
