A report of a residential fire resulted in multiple departments responding to the 700 block of North Sexton Street shortly after 4 p.m. Monday.
Responders found smoke coming from the attic area of the two story home, located at 706 N. Sexton Street.
The house is owned by Tom Smith and occupied by Smith’s son, Thomas D. Smith.
Firefighters were required to cut a hole in the roof to gain access to the fire and quickly had it extinguished.
There was no cause given for the fire which is still under investigation.
No one was home when a the fire was reported although the family pets were in the backyard; there were no injuries reported.
Responding to the fire were personnel from Rushville Fire Department, Rushville Township Volunteer Fire Department, Posey Township Volunteer Fire Department, Raleigh Cascade unit, Rushville Police Department, RMH Ambulance and Duke Energy.
