Wine tasting fundraiser returns for the third year
Proceeds benefit Boys & Girls Club of Rush County
The Boys & Girls Club of Rush County will host Rush County’s third annual wine tasting dinner on Nov. 5, 2009.
This year’s event will be held at the Rushville Elks Club, 223 E. Third Street.
“This is a great venue for this event and we are very happy that the Rushville Elks Club is able to help us with it,” Boys & Girls Club of Rush County CPO William Walker said.
The wine tasting starts at 6:30 p.m. with dinner starting at 7:30 p.m.
Dinner will be a choice of Black Angus steak or salmon.
Tickets for the event are $50 per person. Only 100 tickets will be available.
“We need all tickets sold in advanced to know how many of the proper meals to serve,” Walker noted.
Tickets are available at the Boys & Girls Club and at the Rushville Pharmacy. Tickets are also available from board members Steve Thoman, Kip Burkett, Allen Shelton, Jane Manning, Bob Bridges, Trey Taufmann, Matt Vance and William Walker.
In addition to the wine tasting and dinner, several items will be sold, there will be a presentation about activities at the Club and top donors will be honored.
Walker reminds the community that this is a wine tasting, not a time where someone will become inebriated.
“This is a fundraiser that is important to the operation of the Club. We continue to do different events to try to raise money by attracting different segments of our community. We have had our golf outing, a Longaberger basket fundraiser, the drive-in, China Buffet and our “Sponsor a Child” donor campaign,” he said.
Dennis Brown, Grand Exalted Ruler of the Rushville Elks Club, said “this is a great opportunity for the Elks to continue to help in our community. We have no greater responsibility than to help provide for our youth. The Boys & Girls Club of Rush County does a great job in this regard.”
“While we know times are tough for so many in our community, they are even tougher for our youth. In 2008 it cost us $225.41 per member to operate,” Walker said.
Membership dues are $25 and no child is denied membership due to an inability to pay.
Studies have consistently shown that children from the lower end of the socioeconomic spectrum perform better with the type of assistance and programs available at the Boys & Girls Club.
The Boys & Girls Club is open to all youth ages 5 through 19.
Anyone wishing to make a donation to the Boys & Girls Club is encouraged to contact Walker at 932-2765, 561-1718, by e-mail at bandgclub@rushdsl.com or at the Club’s Web site at www.rushcountybgc.org.
