Collision injures two
A 911 call to the Rush County Sheriff’s Department shortly before 1 p.m. Saturday reported that two vehicles had just collided head-on west of Rushville on SR 44.
The call resulted in multiple agencies responding to the 3500 block of West SR 44, where they found the intersection of the state road and CR 350W littered with debris from the collision. Both vehicles had left the road and come to rest in a nearby side ditch.
Investigating officer deputy Dave Sliger of the RCSD said a 2003 General Motors van driven by Juanita J. Clifton, 37, of Milroy, was one of the vehicles involved and that she failed to see an approaching westbound vehicle prior to entering the intersection.
According to the deputy, Clifton was northbound. After coming to a stop at the intersecting roads she failed to see a westbound 2005 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Ruth A. Moll, 22, of Muncie.
Moll told the officer that although she tried to avoid the collision she was left with little time and few options to do so.
The force of the impact caused extensive damage to both vehicles involved.
Moll and a minor passenger in her vehicle were injured as a result of the collision; following treatment at the scene both were transported to Rush Memorial Hospital for what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
“Fortunately, all of the occupants in both vehicles were properly restrained. Air bags in each vehicle deployed and the child was in a child seat,” one responder said at the scene.
The state road was reduced to a single lane for nearly an hour as the investigation and cleanup of the road was conducted.
