Arrest made in gazebo vandalism

Frank Denzler

In recent weeks vandals have targeted the gazebo in South Veterans Memorial Park, causing more than $500 in damage.

Considerable damage to the gazebo was done the evening of Nov. 1 and images of the individual believed to be responsible were captured by nearby video cameras; however, positive identification of the perpetrator was not possible at that time.

A few days later images of another group of juveniles were caught as they vandalized the structure.

The ensuing investigation was conducted by RPD officer Cale Worley and has led to the arrest of two juveniles, ages 14 and 15.

Because of their ages, the names of the juveniles were not released.

According to Worley, he believes additional individuals were also involved in the incident and the investigation is ongoing. The officer is currently pursuing additional leads and cautiously anticipates additional arrests in the case.

Rushville City Parks Director Danny Mathews joined with chief of police Ron Cameron in commending Worley for the investigation that led to the arrest.

Mathews and Cameron ask that anytime people witness vandalism in the city parks that they contact the RPD at (765) 932-3907.

The gazebo located in South Veterans Memorial Park was built without the use of taxpayers dollars; however, random acts of violence and vandalism in recent years to the structure have cost local taxpayers on numerous occasions.
