RUSHVILLE —
This year will mark the 54th time that Rush County will crown a fair queen.
One of the most prestigious and anticipated events associated with the annual fair is the fair queen pageant. The 2013 fair queen will be crowned shortly after 7 p.m. June 8 in the Laughlin Center for the Performing Arts at RCHS.
The fair queen also represents the county in the State Fair Queen pageant. Local organizers note that 2012 Rush County Fair Queen Kristiann Maggard represented the county very well and placed in the top 10 at the state event.
Rush County Fair Queen Pageant Committee Chair Karen Macy said that a new change this year will be realized in the age of the contestants.
“Each contestant must be at least 17 years of age and must turn 18 by June 1, 2014, and cannot have reached their 21st birthday as of Aug. 16, 2013, the first day of the Indiana State Fair,” Macy said.
The deadline for 2013 fair queen contestants is only weeks away, on April 26.
Those interested in participating in the pageant may pick up an entry form at Pizza King, 213 North Perkins Street; Shampoo Bowl, 135 South Morgan Street; Staggs Dairy Treats & Restaurant, 1010 West Third Street; All About You Salon, 113 West Third Street; and the RCHS main office.
Contestant workshops will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. May 6, 7, 13 and 14 in the Root Building located on the Rush County Fairgrounds.
The annual queen contestants car wash will be held from 9 a.m. to noon May 18 at Hubler Auto Center.
Macy noted that those fortunate enough to be crowned Miss Rush County become part of an elite group of young women.
According to Macy and co-chair Paula Shelton, leading up to the pageant is the May 1 orientation for the contestants and their mothers. The event will be held at 6 p.m. in the Fair Board office located at the north end of the fairgrounds near the Root Building.
“This is a very important meeting and all contestants will receive their information packet along with information regarding dress attire and sign-up sheet for a photo to be taken by Photography by Green,” Macy said.
Questions regarding the pageant may be directed to Macy at (765) 932-5367 or Shelton at (765) 932-4618.
