Manilla teen arrested on rape charge

RUSHVILLE — A Rushville Police Department investigation into unsolicited sexual activity resulted in Thursday’s arrest of Zane E. Followell, 17, of Manilla. Followell is charged with two class “B” felony counts: rape and child molestation.

RPD Detective Randy Meek said the alleged assault occurred Feb. 11 at an undisclosed Rushville residence and involved a pre-teen female.

Due to her age and the nature of the crime the victim’s identity was not released.

“The crime was reported to the RPD by an unidentified adult concerned about the possibility of deviant sexual activity involving Zane and the underage female,” Meek said.

Meek said fellow RPD officers Alex Shaver and Charles Tate were instrumental during the initial phase of the investigation that culminated in the arrest.

The officer continued by saying the Department of Child Services was also involved and instrumental during the investigation.

The Manilla man was taken into custody at 11:27 a.m. Thursday. He currently is being held in the Rush County Jail with no bond listed on the arrest report.

Police chief Craig Tucker commended the efforts of the officers involved in the investigation that led to Followell’s arrest.
