Boating accident injures two on Brookville Reservoir

BROOKVILLE—At approximately 10:30 p.m. Monday, Indiana Conservation Officers were notified by the Union County Sheriff’s Department of a possible boating accident on Brookville Reservoir.

Jerry Hill, 44, along with Andrew Griffin, 20, were riding in a 17-foot bass tracker, driven by Hill’s step-son, Kevin Meisenholder, on Brookville Reservoir. The three individuals were heading to Egypt Hollow Boat Ramp after several hours of fishing on the lake.

Meisenholder steered the boat sharply to the right which caused Hill to fall over the edge of the boat and into the water where he was struck on the back of the head by the boat’s motor propeller. Meisenholder turned the boat around and was able to locate the victim in the water.

Griffin then jumped into the water and assisted Hill swimming back to the boat where he was them taken to the Sagamore Resort for Emergency Personnel. Hill was treated by Fayette Memorial EMTs and Union County Sheriff’s deputies while Liberty Fire Department and DNR personnel set up a landing zone at the Sagamore Resort for Miami Valley Care Flight. Hill was then transported to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.

His condition was unknown at press time.

Units on the scene were Liberty Fire, Liberty Police Department, Union County Sheriff’s Department, Fayette Memorial EMTs, DNR Reservoir Personnel and Indiana Conservation Officers. The accident is still under investigation by the District Nine Indiana Conservation Officers.
