Not since the 1940s has a presidential candidate or said representative visited Rush County, but that will all change tonight when Chelsea Clinton will make an appearance in Rushville, campaigning on behalf of her mother, Hillary.
Clinton will be at the South Veterans Memorial Park gazebo (behind the Park Restaurant) weather-permitting at approximately 5:30 p.m. In case of inclement weather, the event will move to the RushShelby Energy Community Building at the Rush County Fairgrounds, just north of the football field on North Sexton Street.
Chelsea will also be making stops in New Albany, Salem, Austin and Muncie. At each stop she will discuss Hillary’s plan to create jobs, rebuild the middle class and provide health care to every American.
Rushville Mayor Mervyn Bostic said that he and the local Democrat party have been working diligently for the past three weeks to get Chelsea Clinton to visit Rushville, which ultimately beat out New Castle for the visit.
“We’re just thrilled that she’s chosen to make her stop here,” Bostic said. “We couldn’t be happier, and we know that she’ll have a lot to say and will touch a lot of people when she does speak.”
Bostic said that he was one of the first Democratic mayors in the state of Indiana to endorse Hillary Clinton for president.
