This year offers a different kind of Antique Auto tour event as participants “Remember the Rail” on Sept. 6, 2008.
This year’s tour will begin at the Historic Pennsylvania Railroad Depot, 900 block of North E Street in Richmond’s Historic District. The Tour will then will travel the Historic National Road, and parade though Centerville, to the Model T Museum and the Warm Glow Candle Outlet.
After visiting both facilities at your leisure, the tour will travel the National Road and Parade through Canal Days in Cambridge City, to the Huddleston Farm House Inn, where you will enjoy an authentic ham and bean lunch, and tour this Historic Landmark.
After leaving there, the Tour will proceed to Knightstown, with a stop at the Knightstown Town Square, where local persons can view the cars, and you can visit downtown Knightstown.
Participants will then head out for a round trip old time train ride from Knightstown to Carthage on the CK&S; Railroad, which will stop for ice cream in Carthage before returning to Knightstown.
Ending the day you will enjoy the scenic ride to the Kopper Kettle Restaurant, a historic inn located in Morristown, and enjoy this social time with fellow drivers.
The Tour will be limited to 60 cars, so send in your application as soon as possible. As an organization promoting our special Historic Road, organizers are combining historic cars with historic stories. The Indiana section of the Historic National Road was designated State Scenic Byway status in 1996, and National Scenic Byway status in 1998.
In 2002, the entire Historic National Road, through Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois, was designated an All-American Road for its historical and cultural significance. It became the longest byway traversing the greatest number of states to receive this honor.
Fees are $75 for car and driver, and $40 for each passenger, which includes all activities, entrance fees, and meals for the day. Pre-1960 vintage automobiles are preferred.
