Requests for Local Public Agency (LPA) funding by Rush County officials to replace two bridges and repair another were approved by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT).

The sum of $488,000 was awarded at a recent project selection committee meeting for rehabilitation and repair of Bridge 143 on CR 725W over Conns Creek. An additional $100,000 was approved for the replacement of Bridge 116 on CR 500N over Little Blue River. And a request for $40,000 for replacement of Bridge 159 on CR 365E over Little Flatrock River was also approved.

Rush County was one of 13 municipalities vying for $4.6 million administered by the Greenfield District of INDOT.

The LPA bridge award represents federal funding that must be matched on an 80 to 20 percent basis by the county.

In other highway projects, Milestone crews began milling the surface asphalt on US 52 Wednesday, starting at Post Road, proceeding to Morristown.

Paving operations will begin soon.

The $2.4 million preventative maintenance project will protect the roadbed and restore smoothness along the 17.7 mile route from Marion County to CR 500E in Shelby County.

No road closures or detours are anticipated. Flaggers will direct traffic flow around the progressing work site.
