Shortly before 1 p.m. Friday, management from the Village Pantry, 630 North Main Street, contacted the Rushville Police Department regarding an internal concern. Responding to the call was officer Mark Ford.
RPD Chief of Police Ron Cameron said that after speaking with store manager Brenda Freeman and Prevention Loss Specialist for Village Pantry Beth Hambler, Ford began an investigation that led to the arrest of Serena S. Snider, 32, of Rushville.
Snider has been charged with three counts of theft and is being held in the Rush County Jail. A $10,000 bond was listed on her arrest report.
“The investigation revealed that several hundred and perhaps thousands of dollars worth of merchandise has been stolen from the Village Pantry over a period of time,” Cameron said.
Instrumental in the investigation were security cameras placed strategically throughout the store.
It is alleged that surveillance video tapes show that on numerous occasions Snider allowed customers to bring merchandise to the counter where the items were placed in bags and carried out of the convenience store without being paid for.
The investigation is ongoing at this time and warrants are being sought for individuals identified from the video tapes.
“Anyone with additional information or simply wishing to clear their conscience is asked to contact the RPD,” Cameron said.
