It’s that time of year again for St. Mary Catholic School students to get registered if they haven’t done so already.
Most of the students and their parents have already completed the registration process for the upcoming school year. If you not, registration materials my be returned Tuesday.
On Tuesday, school personnel will be at the south end of the multi-purpose room in the school at Fifth and Perkins streets in Rushville. Someone will be available from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
During that time:
n Payment will be expected for the 2008-2009 book bill and book rental.
n Preschool tuition for August and the preschool first semester activity fees are due.
n PTA committee sign-up.
n School Belles will be available to measure child, have samples sizes to try on and will be able to assist with ordering uniformclothing. School Belles accepts cash, credit cards and checks with a valid driver’s license. (Please note: a representative will only be available from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m.).
n Uniform exchange - donated uniforms are available, sorted by size and gender. If you have any gently used, clean, uniform clothing to donate, please bring them with you on Tuesday. There are a wide variety of sizes available.
n Recess and lunch helper sign-up.
n Floating classroom aides.
n VIRTUS training sign-up (This is required for any person volunteering or working at St. Mary Catholic School based on Archdiocese requirements. If you have already attended this training you only need to keep up with online updates. Training needs to be completed every five years. Help is available if you need assistance).
n Back to School Swim Party information.
n Back to School Pack orders will be taken.
n Art volunteer (We will have lesson plans made available to us throughout the school year. Volunteers are needed to oversee the implementation of these plans.)
n Yearbooks will be distributed. A few extras are avaiable if you did not place an order in the spring.

RCCF Education Fund Grants awarded
The Rush County Education Fund Grants Committee recently met to review grant applications for the 2012 grant cycle and to make their recommendations to the Rush County Community Foundation's Board of Directors.

Commissioners hear of feasibility study
The Rush County Commissioners met earlier this week and heard a report regarding a feasibility study currently underway regarding the city possibly running an ambulance service out of the Rushville Fire Department.

Pool open
Waggener Community Pool will be open from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday. The pool will be closed Monday and Tuesday and then open again Wednesday as was originally scheduled. Information: 932-7100.

Waggener Pool opening Saturday and Sunday
In an update to this story, the City announced plans today to open Waggener Community Pool earlier than originally planned due to expected high temperatures over Memorial Weekend. Mayor Mike Pavey has asked that the pool be open this coming Saturday and Sunday. Hours will be noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday. The pool will be closed on Monday for Memorial Day and Tuesday, and open again Wednesday, May 30, as was originally scheduled.

Why do young white women risk cancer to be tan?
A CDC report out this month found that nearly one in three white women aged 18 to 25 had used a tanning booth in the previous year. White women aged 18 to 21 went the most often, averaging 27.6 sessions per year—that’s over two sessions per month—while nearly 70 percent said they had gone at least 10 times in the last year.

Todd resigns
