Early morning crash lands teen in RMH
Driver rolls three times west of Rushville
Shortly before 6 a.m. Friday a report of a single vehicle rollover accident sent medical, law enforcement personnel and other responders to the Manilla area.
Once on the scene it was learned that the driver, 18-year-old Devin A. Banks of Rushville, had escaped serious injury after the vehicle he was driving — a 2000 Ford Ranger pickup truck — rolled multiple times.
Investigating officer deputy Mark Click of the Rush County Sheriff’s department said Banks was westbound when he apparently feel asleep at the wheel and left the state road.
“The vehicle skidded off the south side of the road and entered a standing cornfield and rolled three times before coming to rest on the driver’s side ,” Click said.
The teen was wearing his seatbelt and shoulder harness at the time of the accident and that had a dramatic impact on reducing the severity of his injuries, the deputy said.
Following treatment at the scene by medical personnel from RMH Ambulance Banks was transported to Rush Memorial Hospital.
Although the driver informed medical personnel of multiple areas of pain, his injuries were not considered to be life threatening, though the full extent those injuries remained unknown at press time Friday.
Responding to the scene were units from the RCSD, Indiana State Police, Manilla Volunteer Fire Department, RMH Ambulance and Davis Towing.
